Map fix request, times 2!

Post by EvilGrins »

Even from back when I still had access to UnrealEd, there's a thread on the "House of Fools" forums which I consult with my pathing guy, and for various other map fixes outside my meager skill set...
evilgrins wrote: Thu Nov 28, 2024 7:35 amTwo maps with the same issue. Medium-sized fighting area in larger surroundings. Overall they're just fine but, and this is slightly less an issue with the UTDMW variant, when monsters (and the occasional bot) falls into the depths they land on this little area and don't die.

I'd kinda like you to make it so if they get stuck down there, they do jump in so they then respawn back to the play areas above.

Original map had a SkaarjBerserker pacing back and forth outside the base, where I have the UTDMS & UTDMW pacing now... as they respawn and the original beastie didn't.
...but this one fairly stymied him.

Anybody here think they can fix that?

I guess the land on the top of the additional solid brushes, like Brush526:

I'd remove all these around placed brushes, and additionally replace the several portal brush pieces separating the lava zone with a single big one.

Didn't go at all :pfff:
Instead I recreated outer brush as well as dome in centre. I've send you a preview as PM.

Is the map ok so far? I think it needs some additional adjustment for the outside light.

Map looks nice, the abrupt end to the path is interesting. Looks like you widened the overall area, but it works; UTDMS & bots no longer get caught on that ledge down there.

Curious to see if that plays out as well with the UTDMW version.

Do you want to have this done for the other map, too?

Please!

If I ever get around to editing maps again, I might be able to make a UTDMT of this... path seems a little wider as well.

Added later: Or you could make a UTDMT version. You'd simply have to replace the UTDM-monster already on the map with a UTDMT, attach it to the pathing, and name it "Tommy the Titan".

I don't see the sense of the UTDMskaarjberserker: he is on the bridge outside the playground and cannot pass the door to get to any player. What is he good for?

The above ZIP file contains the file UTDM.u with a SHA1 checksum of 1d3b6cabcc562d38d7c65f1b7477b4715845c3a8. But the file on UnrealArchive has a different checksum of 78d5d65e93f2312d7d015c4cfdd66513caca77b7. Is the UTDM.u in above ZIP file a special version?

Mostly decoration, to be sure, but he periodically notices players when they're up high or near the windows on his side. His projectiles are the most powerful dispersion blasts and as he fires from both hands it's an akimbo burst... if a player is hit it's death for them and the UTDMS gets a point.

I refer to the Warlord version as UTDMW, but it comes from that file. When I first got it I considered renaming it but was worried about potential file conflicts so left it as is.

Similar to how the UTDMS comes from the "UTDMskaarjberserker.u" file.
