A week later? At least in my case the max time they ever took to post my news was about 18 hours or so, the min was about 30min or 1hour...
so if they ever took one week to do it, then it must be because they had some issue or something during that period.

They unlocked it already.

One of my news for FF was unlocked 5 days later ...it was only once, but it was.

GenMoKai wrote: 1. Map is to be based on Epic product maps for any version of UT, and Unreal (because Unreal works in UT). Map can be a conversion with a new theme, or a modified layout, or a mash-up of Epic maps parts, or can be brushed from scratch - as long as map has recognizable Epic Games design elements. A mapper is allowed to submit a map that does not conform to the "Epic" rule - but the map will lose a point in score.
I have a doubt on this one (and probably other mappers too), so what exactly you guys are defining "based on Epic product maps"?
You mean we have to build something "similar" relative an existing Epic map?

I think this map here is a good example.
http://www.moddb.com/games/unreal-tourn ... dm-deck420
It is still Deck16 but only the game-flow, everything else is different ...and pretty.
You can even mix maps or take only recognizable parts out of a known map and mash 'em up.

Or did I get this wrong??

Bot40's remake is a stellar example.

Although I don't believe a remake of deck16 would excite anyone at this point. 8)

heh, i didn't vote for that, lol! but some did :)

I think you can take some licence there - that snowfaced map is a face map, but it's built from scratch, bigger, has several little changes as well. if i had put a third building in the middle, it would not really be the same map, but would still be recognizable as face (well imo).

Some (free) examples of what you could do:

- take dm-deck-16, wreck the shit out of it, fill it with toxic water, form some new routes using fallen chunks or beams. add some holes in the walls or ceiling where you can see a skybox outside, etc. re-texture it all to look different..

- make a ctf by using fractal as a base joined to healpod or liandri as a middle - add/change bsp to make new routes, re-texture, etc.

- combine 1/2 of three ctf maps joined end to end with a dm map as an arena at the end, to make a monsterhunt..

- you could take parts (like towers, castles parts) from different maps and use them together in your own layout... i think that would probably be okay...

Well, asked to be sure, however my idea for the map is a bit similar to an already existing UT map, but rather different. Not sure if it will count as "Epic based", but I will do it anyway.

this doesn't count, but i just took the unreal dmdeck16, and flipped the whole thing upside down - course i fell down when i spawned, but this has possibilites... re-do the ramps, move the water down to the "new" floor. do some "slicing and dicing" to make some sort of flow. redo-texturing and definitely redo the lighting, lol... and then you have a new DM map. This whole map at the moment has 179 brushes. Mysha probably made the original map in 3-4 hours, lol. Some of my little test maps have more that 200 brushes

Quick question? Can you post some of your WIP stuff for the contest in here? or must it be a "secret"? :)

yeah i say absolutely show progress :tu:

makes it interesting to see who's doing what - like this:

you know you can jam a LOT of these epic maps together - i think i'll see where this goes -
DM-XC-FnBsEpicMess1.jpg

this is 4.5 urban themed maps and it actually builds :loool:
(of course, i'll have to turn this into something that makes sense :???: )

Cheers

@EPIC rule: maps from the bonus packs allowed? Not saying that my map will be based on one, just asking.
Darn school, I only have the idea (a silly one) but I'll have to map 8h later :(
