good job everyone.
I voted for
-xmasroom: because it made me laugh. the players who are ''doing it'', the perv snowman who is watching everything through the window. the little brother who is sitting on the chair while it all happens.
-snowglobe: also made me laugh. map looks good
-morpheus peak: because two interesting maps are combined. it is done well. nice atmosphere.

Damn ...I am out ...I can't vote because my CRT keeps falling apart.
Right now can't the screen switch in the game mode without flickering after 3-5 minutes.
I try to use the window mode ...but I don't think this will help.

Have you tried running the CRT at a different speed?
Sometimes they can burn-out the most used frequency and resolution.
Try going up, or down 1 speed.

If you don't have a manufacturers inf (driver) file, then Windows PnP may not be reporting the full and correct ranges.
If you can't find an inf file for the monitor, you can make your own with the "PowerStrip" utility in the Windows tweaks thread.

Plug and play only reports the standard resolutions. If you have a nice designers monitor, then it is more important to install properly.
If you did install with an inf file, check Windows is still using it. It can sometimes swap back to Plug'n'Play if you boot without the monitor switched on !

Possibly you have a dry solder joint, which is failing when the heat raises. Can you use it without the rear case ?
Maybe try blowing a fan in the back.

I know why you wrote that post. I can somehow sense your frustration (specially because you did not even reply on Flays post), but what do you expect us to do?
Shall we arrange you a donations account (most likely I would even donate up to 20 € for you)? It beggars description! I remember my old CRT, it got darker and darker until it was just enough and I bought a new one for around uhm 120 Euros ...
About to be non-active
My very last UT map project: CTF-FacePalm (tropical CTF-Face remake)
Why do I leave? click here
What I want to do next: Joining an UDK team (uncertain however) and improve 3D modelling and texture editing skills
Thanks to those who visibly supported me until/at the end!
My reactivated account on indiedb.com.

You got me wrong here ...I only said that I can't vote because I can't play the maps.
A new monitor is on the way ...but not in time.

And I did answer Dr.Flay ...per PM. :mrgreen:

I voted for these:
CTF-XC-Peak17
CTF-XC-SnowGlobe
DM-XC-EpicTownV1
I just want to say that all maps are great, it was hard to choose only three of them. I'm glad to see people are still mapping for this game. Hopefully I'll participate in some mapping contests in future.

CTF-XC-Peak17
DM-XC-MorpheusPeak
DM-XC-EpicTownV1

EpicTown was my favourite, but I have a soft spot for huge maps :). Really really fun map to play, doesn't get boring even after long matches.

I liked the idea and visuals of MorpheusPeak a lot, it is a bit overscaled for my taste (the original Morpheus was tighter and had less lines of sight, which made the matches a bit less hitscan-based) but it's very fun to play anyway :)

Peak17 is another fun map, visuals are great as expected from a Swanky map (although there are indeed other texture packs in UT, ya know man? J/K ;)), gameplay was fun although I found it a bit hard to navigate, it's probably just me being rusty at UT though ;)

Overall good job to everyone, all the maps are fun to play and there are lots of cool ideas :)
I'm a bit sad to see no Monster Hunt maps submitted, I was looking forward to play some kickass high-quality MHs :(. Probably the time limit was a bit restrictive for this gametype, it takes quite a while to build a full-size MH map...
Sorry for not being able to submit my map, RL got the best of me and I haven't worked on my map much, still very unfinished (I probably wouldn't have been able to submit in time anyway, since it's BIG!). I will try to finish it soon though :)

As I did say ...the map has a little different game-play. Cool that you liked it. :wink:

Just a reminder to the contest mappers - if you have a V2 of your map (fixes, changes etc) please PM me with the map download this week.

I am assembling the offical UT99.org 2012 xmas map-pack this week.

so far I have received V2 maps from ozma777, jaypeezy and myself.

I know some of the maps are very dark and could benefit from higher level brightness - GEx and Isotoxin (and even Swanky's) - these maps could definitely all be a bit brighter. At 5/10 brightness in-game it is too hard to see without pressing F11 a few times.

Anyways, map-pack will be released as soon as there are map-judging results.

At this point it looks like genMokai will be earning the 1 extra point for most popular map ... :gj: genMokai :rock:

Cheers

it's just a suggestion, Swanky, and F11 is there for that purpose (controlling ingame brightness). I use 5/10 as a standard to "map to", as it satisfies most users monitor brightness/contrast settings, which obviously has an effect whether F11 is used or not. At 60% contrast, and 60% brightness (on monitors here) and F11=5/10, the maps listed are too dark. If you map to 6/10, then this all makes sense - your light actors brightness will be typically lower, since your screen brightness is higher. When I play at lower screen-brightness, then your lights appear darker.

Not a big deal really, it is only a suggestion.

Cheers

Please bare in mind, the renderer and settings will make things brighter or darker (I find that D3D, D3D9, and GL often differ)
If you use Software renderer in UEd then also it will often differ.

Don't forget that there are further options in UT's ini file that can change things beyond what you have set in UT's GUI.

Code: Select all

OneXBlending=True
GammaCorrectScreenshots=True
GammaOffsetBlue=0.000000
GammaOffsetGreen=0.000000
GammaOffsetRed=0.000000
GammaOffset=0.000000
"OneXBlending" should only be set when you are using;

Code: Select all

UseMultiTexture=False
SinglePassDetail=True
SinglePassFog=True
For example, if you are using ENB Bloom, or trying to get more speed out of UT.
