Yeah sounds like it ...what happened ?
Why is it suddenly not allowed to take Epic maps as basis for custom maps?
And what is "IP violation" ...when I did search this abbreviation I got "patent infringement" or "index of plasticity" or "Internet protocol" ...and I don't think that FnB's map will harm the internet. :|

well people have been doing that for years, i'm not sure yet what the issue is. I'm waiting to find out what's wrong. Hopefully I can find out soon. might not actually be IP, in the case of that map, but some other issue or complaint. It's entirely possible that the map, as it is, has pissed someone off. I don't know at the moment - I don't think there is anything offensive in there, it was intended as fun little tribute - but that said, some things can be interpreted other than intended. I'll find out first, then fix the situation...

I had a whole lot of fun making my map and I also really enjoyed seeing other people's creations. I kind of wish I had done a DOM map because my map was so huge (too big for DM). But next time I will know how big to make things and also how to make it flow better.

I'm definately IN for whatever and whenever the next contest is.

Congratulations to GenMoKai a very nice map that fits christmas very nicely.
Also Congratulations to the other mappers for making some seriously cool maps.

edit: EpicTownV1 was really well done, as far as I know because mappers don't get paid it should be ok to use epic maps (but isn't apparently). It's a shame, I was looking forward to the V2....well hopefully there will still be a V2.

Nothing has been "said" yet. I have contacted my file host and asked them why they are blocking that particular download. They got back to me requesting the URL (i find that odd) and I expect they will get back to me soon. When I find out what happened I'll be able to act appropriately...

So if everyone here is okay with a little wait for their map-pack, then I may be able to include the map if it turns out to be a glitch or a quickly fixable situation... otherwise voice your concerns - I can still just release it without my map if that's what ya'll want.

You are part of this mapping contest ...and it would be a pity if your map wouldn't be included.
I don't mind, if I have to wait a little bit longer.

It would be worth stating that the file-host in question, is the otherwise impeccable "Medifire"
Also it happened so fast, that it must be some sort of automatic scanning/filtering system.
Frag was not notified, or issued a "cease and desist order". I had to tell him the file was blocked when I could not access it.

This is why I suggest having a word with Flak, as I imagine Epic would be more than happy to promote a map of such quality and polish.

*UPDATE*
I should have checked all my email accounts. Here is a copy of the email I got from Mediafire after I complained about the block.

Blocking free custom made work by community members, for the UT community is Intolerable. The file you have blocked is the sole property of the guy who made it, and contains no copyrighted material. http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?jedxtczuxfp5xcb Sort your shit out! or we will have to recommend to developers of all Unreal-based games (such as UT, Borderlands, Gears of War, Mortal Kombat etc.) to boycott yet another file-store.

Sorted.
Looks like we'll be good to go ahead with pack 2. :tu:

well thanks Dr.Flay  i'll just add the tone of your ticket seems a bit "aggressive" compared to mine, but that said you got a reply rather fast and so far I have not heard back from them. The other thing is, we still don't know "why" the block happened in the first place (which I was hoping to find out). Anyways, I guess it's all good so my little freak-out is over...

I think I'll include a disclaimer in the level-info entry text and readme file just in case ...

Cheers

Glad you were able to resolve these issues! Would have been a shame to not have it in the pack. It's strange that they blocked the file as I don't think MediaFire checks their files thoroughly for copyright, and especially I don't think they have a tech department that opens up UT maps to see if there's content from other maps in them :P.

I thought "How dare they?"
"I am not having that, from the likes of you"
"People's fun is at stake"....Oh yeah and Frag's reputation.

So I thought I'd just kick the bloody doors in, and get straight to the point.
We have had enough trouble with file-sites leaving us in the crap, and it's becoming a bigger problem.
They have to be reminded, they are there for us, not the other way round.

The fact that they did not notify the account holder a file has been flagged/blocked, is the thing that made me mad.
It should have been automatic, but we had to complain.

....I should have complained, about having to complain :lol2:
In fact I am stunned that Frag still has no apology or explanation, to avoid future blocks. :mad2:

sorry guys - when it rains it pours around here :wtf: got incredibly busy with other (RL) stuff - I'm just finishing off the readme file as we speak :D

I was planning to upload to MapRaider today - BUT - I'm thinking this should go to the same uploader as the UT99 CMP2 map-pack, which is "UT99.org". so can someone tell me who "UT99.org" is so I can make the map-pack files available to him?

There are TWO packs: as follows:

VOLUME-1: UT99XmasContest2012-Volume1.zip - 75,714 kb

CTF-XC-SnowGlobe - GenMoKai
JB-XC-{dFb}-X-Mas-2012 - {dFb}MattMan
DM-XC-MorpheusPeak final-v2 - papercoffee
DM-XC-ColdstoneFinalV2 - jaypeezy
DM-XC-Ozma777-v2 - Ozma777
DM-XC-HealPyramid - Raiken

VOLUME-2: UT99XmasContest2012-Volume2.zip - 68,479 kb

DM-XC-{dfb}PartyRock_Xmas - Pipe
CTF-XC-Peak17 - Swanky
DM-XC-EpicTownV2A - FraGnBraG
DM-XC-XMASROOM - ASLYE702
DM-XC-Adequate - Isotoxin
DM-XC-NaliTreeV2 - GEx
