Fun things to add to map?

Post by Pileyrei »

Hi all

A bit of a random question.......

But what fun or cool things can you add to map?
The weirder and whackier the better!

Share with me what you have done!

Me, I add rats, cockroaches, butterflies, birds, and other wildlife to maps.
This seems to be a strange thing in multi-player maps, but I like the environment to feel alive.

I also add pushable trash/rubbish bins in city maps, so you can crouch and push it as a shield, or create a barricade.

Well, in one of my first maps I added a couple of wacky stuff of my own:
- CTF-Kosov2: Had helicopters, a mine field, military base with missiles, a floating island, a full train system and spaceships to go to the floating islands. In other words, an aberrant piece of sh*t. :lol2: (I did it when I didn't even knew how to code, so you can imagine the amount of mechanisms I had to add in to make the whole thing work: thing factories, movers (lots of them), and in the end I had to let the map unlit since otherwise the lag would be too great back then lol, to not say how ugly it got in the end lol)
I probably still have it saved somewhere in my DVDs or so.

Skaarj Warriors that cannot be killed and with their energy attacks removed.

Depending on map/gametype, I sometimes put a a playerbot on a map with some random comicbook themed skin I found online. Just for the heck of it.

Fun things I like to add to maps are traps.. Traps with triggered sounds (usually like a laughing sound or a scream) and also with a message/taunt
New map will have a "fake" monster end that will be a triggered trap :satan:

To test to summon WeaponRemover.WeaponRemover in your console. And pass on.
Nice to be with such a button "do not touch" :satan: :satan: :satan:

I made the ouside model of my map, that you play inside, used 2 sided textures.
Then I made it so you can see it going around the outside of the map through a window from the same map you play in.
But then, I made it so you can jump out the window but play low grav of the same you see looking out the window.
Think I used a moving skyzone zone attached to a mover, but the window was a warp zone, but the glass was a fake backdrop.

Secret spot on the maps are always lovely.

Additional fun is very welcome, such as view cameras, or scary traps, or an option to change music in the maps (I've seen the music changer via blocks on the wall to push to change music is nice! This is on a Xloc map though.)

I uploaded this 2004 so don't kill me over graphics.
I think every map I make has some objective to learn and mess around with things more than making an awesome map.

There is one other thing, is that I got the botpaths to work above the flipping mover (you shoot button to drop players in slime) by putting an add brush below the mover. On the next build I unchecked the build paths, after I removed the add brush.
so if anyone rebuilds this those bots won't go on the platform anymore.
(I just re-tried this and you have to shoot the green wall behind the amp to drop the movers, no button)

to find the room I speak of, is somewhat of a secret, but I suppose you can run the editor to see anyway, this was all weird, but it worked !

There's this thing called a Twister, kind of like a monster except you can't kill it. Behaves like a mini-tornado, wanders around a map randomly, sucking people into it, spinning them rapidly making them lose all of their weapons, and then throws them really far.
