Lost Associated Files
I recently had a hard drive crash and lost EVERYTHING I was developing for UT99..
I lost a cow voice pack, I lost all my cow templates and all my maps too...
But I found a map I was working on saved on an external drive, but I only saved the Map and didn't copy the associated Texture files and Music files...
I can get the Texture I am missing, no problem.
BUT the Music/Sound file was custom and cant find a copy.
Sooo I cant open the map for editing without this file.
My question is. Can I trick UnreaED and rebuild a .UMX file and name it the same as the file the map requires? Would that work? Or would there be some conflict because UT is looking for the Exact Original file?

Re: Lost Associated Files
I don't know hoe it works with mapping and .umx files but so far I have had no problem renaming and doing this to whatever else I am coding say weapons or mutators, you should test it out.
And sorry for the bad news.

I still got your SharkTank beta
It's a nice map, put some weapons in it and release it.

Yes, you can make a copy of the original music you are going to use and set it aside, rename it to what you need, then start it up and change it to whatever you need. I only tested this with just .umx and not other files like .uax but it would probably mess up a bit? Long you know what is the file name it need. You can look at it in unreal ed log or client log and see what file it is missing. Thankfully, it doesn't look for required file matching MD5.HOT_BEEF_INJECTION wrote:My question is. I you can edit the map and save it as loading any other music name that you have available in your UT music, so you can start up the map.
Which I've successfully did. With notepad++.

Re: Lost Associated Files
When you say "custom" do you mean you made it yourself or someone made it specifically for you?
Just for the heck of it, what was the .umx file called?

Re: Lost Associated Files
Offline UT does not care if you swap the UMX and rename.
Unless your drive has mechanically died, you can easily recover your data.
After a crash, it is often just lost partition info and the easiest to deal with.
You can even get it back by changing the size of the partition in Partition Magic, if it sees the partition (Ultimate Boot CD)

*ALL of you NEED to use SMART monitoring, so you can spot failure before it happens

Re: Lost Associated Files
I checked with wmic and everything is all right. But I got this error where a drwtsn dll couldn't be initiated at the system shut down (reboot) ...I thought it would be a HDD issue. Now I'm puzzled again.

Further Problems....
I got richrig.UTX from a friend. One problem solved.
NOW it's asking for a package called BEEF.UTX which had some custom textures.
Soooo I copied and Renamed an existing UT99 texture package to 'BEEF.UTX'
But now...
Then I tried Renaming a texture to 'Wall'. Saved... Same Problem
I Imported a new texture and named it "Wall". Saved... Same Problem
Does somebody know a workaround for this problem?

Re: Lost Associated Files
Yep...
Make a new texture file named beef.
The texture inside it have to have a name for Wall. Like this.
Try that.

Re: Lost Associated Files
Hah... I didn't catch that one. g1.
Found out that beef is intended for .utx instead of .umx. I used UTPT to find out what files is for and got it. We're good now.
