Decide something so it can begin, we can't please everyone with this so lets just pick something up already.
Also, I won't be able to participate, sadly, as I am in the process of moving to another state and among the things I am sending off today is my computer.

Has there been any sort of consensus yet? Terrain is cumbersome and it takes awhile to make it look convincing (that's my experience, anyhow), but I'm always up for a challenge. Let's get this thing started :)

We are building consensus. We are almost ready to announce a verdict.

Any updates regarding time and dates for the contest?

If not how about starting on 2015-11-07 at 0:00 utc 0 and having it end at 2061-02-07 at 0:00 utc 0
Because of the holidays 3 months is a good balance IMO due to RL obligations.

46 years... this would be the longest contest of all time.

What he said... only a few bits are left to discuss and we'll be ready to go.

If "we" is the mod team that is doing discussing internally then sure. If "we" is the users who are discussing here in this topic then getting the ball rolling again with a suggestion would be a good thing.
What I am getting at is that Swanky's message is somewhat vague and can be interpreted in multiple ways.
