The 2015 ut99.org Terrain Mapping contest

The Prize

Thanks to Carbon, we have a big box unopened copy of Totally Unreal as a prize.

The Rules

- Regular gametypes (DM, DOM, CTF, AS)
- Map has to have at least 1/4 of the level with terrain.
- Max 2 submissions per mapper.
- Must have a batch texture MyLeveled and put in the map somewhere (Batch Download!)
- Map prefix should be TmC (like DM-TmC-mapname or AS-TmC-mapname etc.)
- Map Screenshot, Bot-Support and Music (at least a MyLeveled blank.umx) are a must.

Contest time

From November 10th 00:00, (UTC) to January 15th, 2016 00:00 (UTC).
Scoring
The maps will have a public voting poll to ascertain the Gamers Choice. But also a separate vote of all the participants to determine the winner of the contest. The mappers can vote for others but not for his own map. This will be explained in details later in the Vote threads.

Submissions
The Submissions have to be posted here in the contest thread. Contest map should be submitted in a .zip or .rar archive file without password protection.
The archive file should contain the map, a screenshot, a readme text file with any required credits. Packages can be MyLeveled if you want.

That's it. Let the Mapping begin. :)

That sounds pretty nice, good luck to all participants.
I'm getting my computer back on December 15, we'll see if I can pull something off in a week.

Good luck to all contestants! Unfortunately, I can't participate, as I apparently mapped too enthusiastically in summer so that I have to go easy on my "mouse hand" for another while. But I will keep track of this thread and give feedback if wanted.

Is it allowed to make more then 2 level but only enter 2 into the contest and have the rest as "bonus" levels for the pack?

Given the time it takes to plan and finish a detailed terrain let's just say focus on quality, not quantity ;)

Word!

But if someone is able to make more than one high quality terrain map in this time (wink to FnB) we should let them in as bonus. But only the first entry is the map which get voted. What do think?

Heh, I was certainly planning to! I just wanted to know if it was ok just in case I or someone else would manage to make more then 2 finished maps.

I'm glad there are still active UT99 communities where contests like this can happen.

Terrain is difficult to manage, so here are a few video tutorials from Aalexanderrr on terrain creation:

Maybe it's time I materialize the island assault map I once envisioned over 12 years ago.
Won't announce entry until I'm sure I can finish the map though.

PD: A useful link to all mappers and samples of what's been done with it...

Happy mapping, you're in for a tough ride.

Count outer space with an asteroid-field based on meshes as terrain?
I have an idea for a space-battle DOM map (old idea) where you have to use ...at least the Quantum-Jets.
Are bots capable to use them (Alt-fire)? Or even more important can they navigate them with pathnodes in the air (empty space) ...I never had tried something like this.

@PaperCoffee
You could use the Jump Pads. You can even change their texture so they look like the asteroids.

Just wondering, what exactly is considered terrain here?

Nope.

In much the same vein as a standard redeemer, bots can fire them in straight lines but they can't fire a guided redeemer... although I gotta say I've never actually seen a bot even fire a Qjet. Even when they're out of ammo on all other weapons, it's like the thing completely confuses them.

Just so you know, I am completing this map for the contest, which is actually called Island assault (2006), lol!

however, it looks like this now and is configured as a DOM map. BETA will ready in the coming days...

What Evilgrins said... They do slightly better with Strangeloves, where they at lest fire the things.... Not sure about RX'es.
Also, I don't think that would count as terrain (if the asteroids were made out of brushes or you could walk on them, then yes.)
