That tutorial would be no good as it doesn't help with the converting issue. It just says to do exactly what sound recorder did in XP. But Windows 7 doesnt have anything for that

A sound editor is a sound editor as far as your needs are.
If you can use 1 you can use any.
and if you can't, then it means you don't actually understand what you are doing.

All you need to do is use the numbers from the tutorial with any other program, as it does not matter where the menus are, 8bit is 8bit, mono is mono, WAV is WAV
The only difference with real audio editors and the windows app, is that you "export" the final audio, not save. Saving creates a project file instead.
You don't need a tutorial for that, as you only need to know how to change bit-depth, frequency and channels.

Use the UMX tutorial, all the info you need is in that. DL a copy here http://www.ut99.org/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=4472#p46692

I built more than 20 voice packs for UT99 in the past and on WinXP/Win7 I always used Sony Sound Forge which is a lot better than Audacity :highfive:
My source files were mostly videos from YT that I first converted to .wav format and later edited with Sony audio editor.
Don't know what you want to do exactly but maybe this tutorial could help you.

cheers,
Pietro

They are actually shown in the UMX tutorial :tu:

Yes indeed Mr.P. Sony Sound Forge is much better (and so is Reaper. My fave), but none of the better stuff is used for rendering to 8bit mono, so unless Acid is looking to do some pro production, I would recommend something "medium".
Though at the end of the day, it is best to simply use the 1 you find easiest to fly.
