Disabling volume filters?

So I updated my OpenAL driver, but there seems to be a feature that quietens loud sounds. I know to some thats a good thing, But for some reason, I just find hilarity in loud noises. For example Instagib + Volatile Weapon. Might also be worth mentioning that the music also goes quiet, and then slowly returns to normal volume from loud noises too.
Is there anyway to fix this?
