First Annual VM RX CTF Mapping Contest (Rules & Info)

Hi Everyone! My name is Pie and I'm here from Vulpine Mission to talk about a great opportunity! Some of you may know of KiLLaH, who has made quite a few RX CTF maps. Well, she decided we needed a contest to get some new maps on servers and give something for you bored mappers out there to do! Vulpine Mission has offered to host this and has donated all the money that'll be given away as prizes.

Anyone who is entering, please PM me your map submissions. The judges would like to keep the map submissions 'unnamed' to prevent bias. So, I'm going to compile them, and each person will be given a letter to represent them in order of how I receive the maps, and then I will give them to the judges. We also need more judges for this contest. So far we have two: KiLLaH and Chopper. We'd like at LEAST one more, but are hoping for five total. You just need to be experienced with map making, as well as been a loyal UT player, so you know what people are looking for in maps. You can sign up to be a judge or contestant in this topic. I'll try to keep the list updated. You can also visit http://www.vulpinemission.com/ and post over on our forums, as that's where the majority of updates will be happening.

Edit: You may start working on your maps for the contest NOW! Please have them submitted to me by September 7th. The judging will start the week of September 8th, and the winners will be chosen on September 15!

The VM map contest was 'my' suggestion months ago on the previous forum. Just sayin.

That's a lot of rules :shock:
Can't promise a map but I'll give it a try. Eh... Could someone lead me to the basics of RX mapping? Like how wide the hallways should be to fit an RX in there? :tongue:

They do make sense though, and if you look at them closely, they just divide between how every CTF map should be + RX gameplay guidelines, and are rather simple straightforward rules imo.

I'll add you to the list GEx! =-D I'm sure you'll be able to make something great. I, however, am of no help, cause I don't even know how to make a map. Lol. =-P

Ok then, I'll just take a good look at other RX maps and try to mimic something out of them (not copy/paste). I didn't understand the "have a preventive measure..." rule, could someone explain it? :noidea

That's basically saying make a spawn room or a spawn that's hidden behind a wall with a mover of some sort, etc. The point is to try and keep the spawnkilling down, which is an often occurance with RX's.

I want to join for this contest! ;)
There is one problem, Im @ home in every 2 weeks for 3 day :X
What is the end date for the contest?

Problem if I start the mapping earlier?

You can start when I posted the topic. =-P Now that info has been posted up, everyone can start mapping for the contest. I'll edit my first post and add this. =-]

EDIT: can I add bot-support? Yes they don't know how to use a RX but at least that they could walk from flag to flag.

Definitely. I've seen a lot of RX maps have bot support.
