Checking player numbers on a server?

Post by Pileyrei »

Hi all

Is there a tool or easy way of checking how many players have visited your server in a certain period?
I hope this question makes sense

I don't know a solution for it, but a few points has come into my mind:
  • Do you want to count every successful login? Or do you want to count any login of a specific player only once? Then you need a reliable method to recognize a player (not only by name).
  • If done by a mutator I see the problem that you can only record the last login.
  • Parsing the log files from outside UT.
  • Periodically scanning the server's info from outside UT.

This is another good theme for new coders... That AkaLog as I know so far saves players joined and ending game, if they don't stay until end, log seems lost, if you need to count exactly number of players joined probably would be needed a small toy.

The fact is that I'm not sure about accuracy, some dudes might use different machines and locations to join in the same loved server and this will trigger a false new player, in fact is about the same guy but coming from a different place.

Thanks for the replies. I'm looking to find out how many players join a server over a certain period so I can work out if it makes sense to keep the server up or not.
Just think this kind of info would be handy to have.

What about external services like GameTracker then? That statistics would be enough for this propose, I guess.

Awhile gametracker may not be truly accurate, you can at least try UTStats to manage good lengthy history with some more information. :)
