Sounds - my strategy
The best thing is exporting a stock sound and figuring format, then applying the same format for ANY new sound for importing it. This won't cause any issue guaranteed.
That's very sound advice (no pun intended) - I did that a long time ago, taking sounds from the default male/female voices, checking their format (particularly the codec but also the sample rate and bits per sample) and then making sure I didn't deviate from that format when importing new sounds into UT.

The unwary may think that all .wav files have the same format but they don't - a sample rate much greater than 22050 Hz can result in undesirable outcomes, like distorted sound/no sound. Personally I don't use sounds with a sample rate of more than 22050 Hz and I think that's the optimum - 11025 Hz can be a little quiet and indistinct.
