Spacescape, a tool for space skyboxes

Post by UTPe »

Hi,
I've just found this software, Spacescape, a tool that mappers could find interesting for their works.
Long story short, Spacescape is an open-source tool for creating cubic space skyboxes with stars and nebulas that can be used for free or commercial games (as written on the homepage, no license or royalties are required).

homepage: http://alexcpeterson.com/spacescape/

Making space skyboxes often is not so easy (I remember I liked much only the space skybox of DM-1on1-Alpha) but as you can see from the images, the skyboxes obtained with this tool are really nice.
Just a note, skyboxes data can be saved in .xml format and so shared among mappers, pretty useful.

There's also an introduction video. I hope this can help someone.

Nice one! I've just put one of the examples into MH-Ziki+SBFix1. :D
Is there a public pool for free-to-use template skies?

Hi Barbie, sorry my late reply, I didn't notice it...anyway I don't know if a free sky database does exist, I think you should ask directly to the author of this tool.

------------------------

I've just found an alternative to Spacescape, a web-based tool for creating quickly nice space skyboxes (use it with Chrome or Firefox browsers).

Really, you don't have so many options but you can choose anyway skybox resolution and generate random space skies.
Moreover, you can save the entire cubemap or the single images. Nice.

Pietro
