20TH Anniversary "French Level Pack"

Title: French Level Pack
Platform: Unreal 225, UT

This is to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Unreal, and especially UDC
(Unreal Design Contest), which was the first serious Unreal level design
contest.
Back in 1998, some special editions of Unreal had an additional CD in
France, that had an exclusive map called "votlan" which was itself based
off a pre-release Vortex2 but played backwards. After finishing the map,
you were directed to a website where you could download more content,
mostly made out of entries for the UDC.
The website was in French, the votlan map was originally in French too,
all approved by the French GTI -- hence the name.
All maps are remastered and there's also new weapons and more from the
alpha Botpack/extra content - see readme for details.
We intended to test this more, but we wanted to release it in August, to
coincide with the 20th anniversary of the contest.
There are some small differences/extra features on OU 227.

Note: This is an altered version of the same post yrex made on OU/USP.

Enjoy!

I can't open FLPinterintro.unr as UT can't find a Palette in SpaceFX.utx - that may be down to the version of SpaceFX.utx that I have which I see is considerably larger in size than the Unreal Gold version.

I can open it without problems in UT v436. The SpaceFX.utx I have in Unreal and UT99 Texture folder are identical:

That's interesting. I made myself the last change to the intro map, I wanted it to be more realistic so I changed the timing of some events and made the "flame" texture use a blue palette from one of the spacefx textures.

I mean it seemed a valid way without having to export/recolor the texture again. I didn't realize this could create an issue elsewhere. Is your spacefx the s3tc version? I'd like to know this.

If you're using the S3TC version, I could issue a patch for the map, which has this texture re-imported. I didn't realize this would cause trouble, using pallete from another texture.

Yes, you're right, it is the S3TC version.

Thanks for doing that so quickly - I tried it but get the error message "Warning: Failed to load 'Level None.MyLevel': Failed to find object 'Level None.MyLevel'"

I suppose I should always double-check it before releasing it. Somehow the entire level got deleted instead there's just the textures...

I suppose that should teach me not to do the conform stuff on a level then.

Btw what s3tc packages were those? Not the UT second cd ones I guess. Because with those there shouldn't be a problem as they contain the duplicate of the normal texture. When DieHard did it, he didn't include the originals altogether, thus the original pallete slots are gone.

Okay, uploaded a fixed version, this time not conformed, so it doesn't mess up the level.

You see, I didn't check it over once I conformed the file again.

I had no clue it would be a problem.

You're right again, they're not the second CD ones - I got them from the UTTextures(?) site and so are the ones by DieHard.

The "UTTexture" site is owned by DieHard himself so it makes sense. I haven't been able to reach him for ages though. Everyone lost their logins in his absence it seems too...

Either way, redownload the file please, I posted before you reacted again so I guess you missed that.
