One thing I should point out.
If you get into the BIOS and allocate more GFX RAM, you will have less left over for windows.
(XP is definitely your best bet if you want to use more GFX RAM).

Always use a 4:3 aspect ratio screen-mode (unless you have a decent card)
Make sure the "Panel fit" option for the intel GFX is set to "Maintain Aspect Ratio".
This is where the use of an old-school monitor is useful.

60Hz Flat-wide-screens are great for office work and browsing the web.
Games generally play faster on 4:3 (...800x600, 640x480...), and on a monitor that an runs at faster speeds.
I play UT99 at [640x480 @ 140Hz] - [800x600 @ 120Hz] - [1024x768 @ 100Hz].

The intel chipset does not seem to like ignoring the bits at the side of a wide-screen, so even when you run UT @ 800x600 on your built-in screen, it will run slowly.
 I CANNOT STRESS THIS ENOUGH, OR ENOUGH TIMES !
If you want faster games on a laptop, plug in a real monitor. You will think it is a different PC !
