Playing with skybox ingame?

Post by Gameite2260 »

I heard that, using noclip, you can go to any level (Morphius for example), use the noclip cheat, and you will eventually be teleported into the game's skybox. From here you can spawn in anything on the walls, and the thing will appear to be in the sky (Since it's placed on the skybox). So if you were to spawn a Krall inside the room, there would appear to be a giant Krall hovering in the sky. Supposedly the best levels to do this are in ones with large outdoors sections such as Morphius, SpaceNoxx, etc.

So is this true? If so, could someone provide pictures?

Well... I dunno what noclip is but you can use the cheat 'ghost' to pass thru solid objects. Then all you have to do is find where the skybox is, go there, and then use 'summon' commands to put whatever you want in there.

Theoretically.

To get out of 'ghost' you enter 'walk'.

"noclip" is just a general term for any cheat that lets you pass through stuff.

But why would you do that? Wouldn't it be easier to edit the map and add the monster or whatever you want there?
You cannot kill what is already dead.

Not really. First of all, you'd have to be proficient in using the editor program. Second of all, you'd have to have the ability to actually draw.

Wut? What has arts and crafts to do with simple map editing??
It's much easier to place stuff into a map via the Editor than to place it ingame by using no-clip and the summoning command.

If you want to "draw" new textures is this in-game not possible anyway.

I'm slightly confused. :ironic2:

That is what I was saying. I know it says "InGame" but what is the point?

I meant as in, it would be easier to just put the model into the skybox than just draw it in, but apparently you can put the model in the skybox via the editor.

Also, I was just using the monsters as a comedic example. It's also possible to put other effects in such as the shock rifle beams, etc. Don't know if you can do that in the editor though.

Well, it's now clear that you are new to this game ...

The Editor is a mighty tool ...you can make even more greater stuff than simply put things into a map.
You can create new stuff.

I'm new to the editor. There's a big difference.

In an offline game you will see everything in a skybox but online not everything replicates from the skybox to the map. Certain classes will not work. For instance if you create a smoking volcano it will work offline but online you will not see smoke in the skybox part of the map.
So long, and thanks for all the fish

You don't have to "draw" anything. Putting monsters in the skybox doesn't involve you personally drawing. Monsters are a summonable item.

In the editor you just need to know how to place monsters anywhere, also not "drawing".

I'm curious: When you say put monsters in the skybox ingame you mean just playing yourself in practice mode, right? Not online on someone's server, as you generally can't go noclip on somebody else's server.

Bumping with something relavent.
I found a mutator here lurking around that makes it so that, when you die, you respawn in the skybox. Unfortunatly, it doesn't seem to work on players, but I had some bots, and here's what it looks like:
Image
As far as I know, the bots only attack other bots that are in the skybox, so no godzilla-style fun here. It's more of a horror setting, since you know that any slipup could end with the remaining players ganking you (Since everyone else is stuck in the skybox). And I don't know what the skybox looks like, but I imagine that it's a very glitchy cubic room that makes hyper realistic blood come out of the screen.

EDIT: Well, on DM-Bishop, I found it does let me into the skybox. But never lets me out. I honestly don't know how that works. But it's not that disturbing, it's rather peaceful-looking:
Image
Well, sometimes. Other times, it ends up being really weird, like on DM-KGalleon.
Image
Every other map seems to work with this, besides DM-Morpheous, the map that the first screenie was taken on.
