You could try this one instead and see how it goes: http://www.moddb.com/mods/chaosut
Last time I tried, it worked.

First of all unpack it before you try to install a umod.
Second why not copy and paste the UT install path?
And third maybe you need the registry fix for your UT installation.

Did you a fresh install of ut 99?
\What version do you have?
If what version is discovered you must run patch 436?
Did ut 99 also have a register value?

Just a very wild guess, as I never ever seen that happening before, but probably what you're actually opening is some sort of cached umod file that you installed previously from UT perspective, so I would bet in some sort of "corrupted" .ini file with a reference still pointing towards this .umod file or overriding something instead (maybe Manifest.ini or something).
And once you try to open any .umod file, it triggers the intent but opens the wrong one.

I do not currently have UT here where I am, but I can try to find out later once I am able to if you don't figure it out.

I believe it has something to do with manifest.ini file. I had a similar problem but forgot wether I deleted the file or emtied out the lines in it. Hope that helps.

Why not use UMODTool.exe to extract the files and then manually place them in the correct folders? (I do that partly because I can check what is in the umod and see if I actually want it - with skins for example).

Thanks for the reactions, for now I seemed to solve it : I renamed my current UT install to : UnrealTournament-old, then using the original setup from the disk again, it's recognized as new fresh install, which i did.
So I created a new fresh instal C:\UnrealTournament, then hitted the umod file again, it worked.

For some weird reason it kinda seems like a file problem. If that is the case, what file do I replace / remove then, instead of all the .tmp files.

Edit, I'll try that. Thanks.

Edit: 2, well using the extractor for every umod is a bit unnecessary while the umod file is a 1-click-install.

But even after I solved, it rather use my old install than this fresh, since its a really big install.

Check in your UT/System folder for Manifest.ini and Manifest.int - if there, delete them.
