"It's OK Barbra, I ran it under a cold tap"

Post by Dr.Flay »

many of you will be happy.
Don't expect any long posts from me for a while :highfive:

Yesterday I rescued a blind Jack Russell Terrier from a river, and got my hands chewed while trying to put the harness back on him.
I know the dog, and I knew it would end bad for me if he panicked, but some times that is just the way life serves it.
Thankfully it has been fairly dry and the river was at a low point. I can't swim so we were both very lucky.

Everything is now slow and painful to do, and some things are off the menu :(
No gaming, no joy.

BTW. Don't start with the hero stuff, I have had enough of that since last night.
I would be ashamed if I had not done it, and would hope that anyone would do the same.

Jack Russells may be small but they are bred for hunting and are good at shredding things quickly.
Here is the culprit "Stevie"

Could any of you watch that get swept down river ?

Not me.

Ok...not a hero (if you insist), but you did a good thing and gave a pretty darn cute little guy a new lease on a happy life. So good for you.

A dog is a gift that keeps giving.

Yup that's cute fella ...but you are not a hero ...you are dumb.
Next time you want to rescue a dog do it the right way. Take your jacket and cover his head.

This sounds like you tried to do this on the spot and not on the riverside.

I got him out of the river fine, but once he was on dry land he was trying to run away.
After the 2nd or 3rd attempt to put his legs in the harness (bad choice of harness), he turned nasty.
Unfortunately if I had covered him, I would not have been able to put on the stupid harness.
It would have required that someone else cover his head while he was lifted to put his legs in the holes.

I also had 2 other dogs to control that were trying to chase something, so the whole thing got a lot more complex than I needed.

Hmm. 1 finger on my right hand is not looking so good. I may have a damaged tendon or infection :(

Ok ...now it's more clear.
Did you see a doctor?
