I notice JackGriffin hasn't posted since the second week or February, does anyone have any related news?

I'm still around.

I do read the forum from time to time and respond privately to people who need it but I may not post much more here. As I posted at OU I'm going to take the summer off from everything to try to get the weight under control. I'm still backsliding slowly and I'm getting bad thin. Took this a few days ago: and that'll pretty much say everything that needs said.

I've arranged with Carbon to transfer my work to him. I'm going to send him my unfinished stuff, the whole deal. He's free to share anything he finds valuable. I'll also include my Unreal gaming servers and you guys are free to clone them however you like. They work nicely as-is and I'll add the source code in case you want to make changes. Everything I used to personalize them was open source or my own creation. I just don't think I'm going to do much more.

This has been a multiple year battle with this damn cancer thing. I appreciate your guy's tolerance at my ups and downs. This is just a bad down and I'm really tired. Oh and do me a favor please guys...don't reply about the disease only. I know you wish the best, I know you are sorry. I'm just SO tired of this being the center of my life. I've spent thousands of hours making mods and stuff but my legacy is going to be 'that guy who had such a battle with cancer'. I'm posting this reply as a form of explanation about my absence not to be the center of a pity attention thread. You understand? I'd rather be responding to "How come your mod sucks so bad?" than "Dude, you look like shit." I get that enough already.

I'll be poking in from time to time. If you need me don't hesitate to email or call. I've had to start a pretty rigorous exercise program to battle the cachexia. Between that and work and fam I just have no free time to game but I'm always up for a chat. Peace!

-Kelly

I do understand; thanks EvilGrins for pointing that out (I must have messed up my forum search parameters), and thanks JackGriffin for your reply and all of the help you've rendered here.

Jack, you're starting to get near my mass! :) (I kinda wish I was joking about that; I am no linebacker.)

Anyhow, as for sharing the stuff I receive from Jack, you bet guys...I will definitely put something together for the community on behalf of Jack. Might be a few weeks - until my vacation starts - but then it will have my full attention.

Stay in touch Jack and as always, you have all of our care and support. :highfive:

You know all those fatty foods people tell us we shouldn't eat?

THEY ARE YOUR FRIENDS!
Not that I'd generally endorse the eating of friends...

Keep yer chin up, and just keep inventing new ways to get the extra minerals and proteins in your food.
As I am always so thin I have to even add protein to breakfast cereal.
Top quality nutrition with the exercise is the key. Turning good food into good muscle.
Kelly knows starchy, fatty foods won't help, unless your body can make good use of it rather than store it.

We have seen you go through the grinder a few times Kelly, so we will keep a seat warm as always.

Hey Kelly, how come your mods suck? ;)

Joke aside, I do hope your summer vacation (can I call it that?) will do you some good and that you get to spend some quality time with friends and family and perhaps even some little fun things you have not managed to get around to.

Quick follow up. I've begun the transfer of literally everything to Carbon. He and I have spoken at great length away from the online forums and developed a good friendship. He's proven to be a great U-archivist and I trust his decisions. I just don't want my stuff to ever get lost or be unavailable. My personal work is only a small part of what I'm sending him. In truth if you made a mod and it's interesting or unique then I've decompiled it and I just sent him the source code ;)

On a personal update I'm getting a couple of emails so let me explain better. As far as I know the cancer isn't 'back'. It's common for later stage cancer patients to get a syndrome called cachexia. You can google it for more in depth explanation but the TL/DR of it is that it's a muscle wasting syndrome. I look completely bizarre because of this thing. I keep the pockets of fat that I have but my muscle mass has withered to almost nothing. Each pound I lose comes directly from my muscle tissue and that's why it's so hard to battle. Less muscle=less energy so you have to rest more which means you build less muscle back. It's a nasty cycle. I'm almost a skin sack of bones lol. If you guys want I'll take a body shot and you can really see it in my shoulders and arms.

Anyway, the only treatment is full-load exercise. I've had to start training like it's a second job. Fuck. This. Shit. Exercising is hard (whine whine)... I miss being fat and lazy.

If I don't die I might be back in the fall. If I do die I'll let you know. If I have to work out like this forever then I might die on purpose :lol2: (JK.....kinda....)

Carbon has my full blessing to do anything he wants with anything I sent him. As always if it's my work anyone can use it however you want. Nothing I ever did was great but you might find it useful or worth improving. Now, excuse me please, I need to get that morning run in. Yay motivation!

Get it? The T-rex represents death and it's chasing me while I run screaming...Too subtle? :loool:

Hey, JackGriffin

I am playing some unreal gold, online, found your server.

Seen my electrolyte map, and checked it out, but that is not the correct version. just replace with the last one I uploaded.
Problem is you can't exit because the last trigger was not right, the bars will not go up.

Pretty weird seeing a UT MH map, being played on Unreal gold, I see the things that are missing, deco lights or a few other things, The main problem is the acid chamber (preasure zone) don't work. But with the mods and things it's still stays playable without it.

Thanks for putting it up !!! just change the map, was other things wrong as well in UT.

The server is only up a day or two on some weekends. To be blunt I won't be doing any more maintenance on it so what's on there is what's on there. As for the map version, all those were imported by Rush. I didn't import any MH maps into Unreal at all, I just copied the work from Dog clan's servers (with permission ofc, they are a great clan of coop players). For the reasons I've posted in other threads I won't fix and repost any of these maps. If you play them it's going to be warts and all.

Many of the maps on that server have issues but there are things in your default inventory that I've made over the years that will deal with any issue you encounter. The scanner will open any mover, door, lift. You spawn with the translocator to reach far away ledges. You can multi-jump like 10 times. And if all else fails the cheats are enabled. Also undocumented is a test pistol that will create a flying bridge to let you access anywhere in the level you want and also will spawn lighting to let you see across very dark maps.

There was so much custom stuff on that server. If Carbon shares it with anyone I probably need to craft a readme to go along with it to explain what's available by default. At the very least you ought to chat with me on TS if you decide to run a mirror server.

Anyway no disrespect intended. I'm glad you are still working on things but don't put much effort into Unreal ports of MH maps working. There's only three or four people who play them with any regularity and you have to get pretty hacky to make them work right.

So who or where can I get that old thing removed (web sites or server(s)) ? I wish I never uploaded anything till the final version. aaaaaaaaaaarrhg

Plus an HOM, misaligned textures, it was only a test map. I will ask the DOG clan, they run a nice server I must say, hope that version isn't "out there" very much.

Good luck in all of your future endeavours Jack, even though we've never talked you've still helped me as much as the rest of the community here. I could make a list but I won't.. But I could.
