At random I read an wiki article about Unreal and saw the release date 22. May 1998! Isn't it the 20th birthday of it today?
Wow... I have played it in single player more often as any other game... Happy birthday to one of the best first person shooter ever made!

Yes it is! LGR just did a review on it, looking back 20 years at good old U98. :-)

Literally to death... the Skaarj are not cuddly and would eat anybody's face.

Here you have about one day to get a legal copy of Unreal Gold for free:

Got it. Now I have a back up online when my CD meets the scratch devil.

Yeah, it was given away for free for one day.
20 years...

I wonder if they will do the same thing with UT on November 2019 (when it also gets to be 20 years old).

Today I gave the Gog.com version of Unreal Gold a try - although I had the Anthology version installed already - and it uses the old gamespy masterserver so no server are listed, also I missed some minor things. Perhaps this is said often here already anyway I want to mention for all new Unreal players who bought the Gog-Version they should install the OldUnreal Patch 227i (for UNREAL GOLD, not CLASSIC) from here:

UnrealGoldPatch227i.zip
https://www.oldunreal.com/oldunrealpatches.html

Perhaps it is useful for the Steam-Version too.

Note:
Everytime I start the game and want to open the server browser I am asked if I want to configure my player settings (player name etc) but I have done this already. It would be great if I could avoid that dialogbox.

Yes, we definitively should plan some funny actions or servers for that. For sure some new people will join the tournament then...

Kinda hard to believe it's already 20 years, and after all this time I'm still amazed by this game. A real timeless classic.

Thing is, it all still works, and thanks to the guy who wrote the OpenGL drivers. Win64 bit pro, intel i7 920 UT still does everything wrong and right the same ways.
