Fortnite forums

Post by TheDane »

So, totaly off topic. Today Epic closed down their fortnite forums and left us with no usefull ground to post our concerns and input about the game. This action is due to their incompetence and willingness to do absolutely nothing to stop cheaters and fix bugs repported.

This is the final step I needed to distance myself from Epic games totaly. As from today I will not be playing or having anything to do with Epic games, this includes UT99 and means that as of today I will no longer be visiting this site eirther, and the three projects I was working on will be putted to a stop and is deleted with no backups. so if you for some strange reason needs to contact me, send me an email, if you don't have my email it's because you have no reason to contact me haha :-)

I didn't even know they were retiring the forums, but it's understandable actually, since barely anyone used them relative to the other channels, namely Reddit for example:
https://reddit.com/r/fortnitebr
for which I have contributed a bit myself.

Whenever I had to search for something and ended up in the forums, it was mostly posts with barely any replies, so it kinda makes sense to me they did that.

In my humble opinion, the decision of yours is unreasonable, at least in terms of your projects concerning this 20-year-old game. Why did you develop them initially when you toss them aside so easily? Have you been dissatisfied with your progress anyway? For whom did you do it? If for your personal enjoyment, then what does Epic have to do with it specifically now? At least they have given you the "playground", without which you woldn't have been here. Do you want to send a signal to the developers? I wonder if they even notice it, if you do it here. If you developed these projects for the UT99 community (of which I assume there are not many Fortnite players, as both have a different target group), what do they have in common with Epic games, so that those are hurt by your decision as well?

Just some food for thought. Maybe it's just my point of view that it is possible to seperate a product from the creator's views or actions beyond the product itself.

I get it. Uscript is great fun to come back to after a break but it doesn't take long before that enthusiasm is tempered by the realization (yet again) that you are ultimately quite limited in what you can do and no one is going to care anyway even if you take the time. Adding to that is the undeniable truth that coding attracts people on the spectrum edge and you get lots of good work but also lots of good drama.

Dane is a wonderful dev and makes great work. It's just that he needs an audience to provide feedback or his enthusiasm wanes. I get that totally, I just gave up a good bit back on thinking I'd ever get any for things I did. It dampened my desire and I guess I'm done now. I check into the forum now and again to grab my PM's but I skip reading most of the posts. I'd guess Dane is doing the same.

Hey D, let's just get Shade to deactivate our accounts and call it a career. Are you interested? It would be a nice way to bookend things before they devolve into something...else. I won't have anything more to offer and it's just going to make me sad to watch people drop away like Loathesome did.

It's time dude. Let's start the U-tirement home for old developers.
So long, and thanks for all the fish

Thats because fortnite is finished.
I dont know if you still can play fortnite from the epic games launcher. This game will be sold in stores for hard dollars, btw i,m glad that epic games has a store now.
But i can see why you are mad about some things epic games does, it still hangs strongly of the community. And everything they do you can not contribute with that.
epic games store is strong now atleast they get some bang of bucks and they are deserving serious money now.ut 99 has nothing todo how epic acts on your opinion.
Ut 99 is still a very good games with a strong community. :tu:
Its like playing ut99 with aimbot on.

keep up the good works.

I can understand the resentment towards the current Epic, but here we don't contribute much to them or their pockets.
Here it is all for us, and may as well be a creative hobby we can get joy from for free.
I hope you will take up another engine and be creative with that.
At least make sure your completed works have been archived for others to enjoy.

Speaking of MrLoathsome. His ghost popped into chat tonight and freaked us out.
His brother was going through his stuff and switched on his PC. Icechat must have autorun as he did not intend to visit.
It was emotional.
I need to try emailing his bro again about the archival of his stuff.
