In the employment world, the more languages you know, the better, but there are some more important than others.
Nowadays, the most important languages are all related to mobile and web, therefore you should learn web first: php, javascript (and some neat frameworks like jQuery), mysql, html, css, etc.

If you want to code stuff to sell with almost no headache by yourself, I would advice you to get an android phone (a good one, not the best but not a sh*tty one) and learn java (but you will need some deep knowledge in how a machine works physically, relative the stack, VM, memory, CPU, threads, Linux in general, etc).

As for C++, it's always good to learn it, but if you want to work on something for real, C++ is considered a quite obsolete language to use in "regular" apps.
C++ is only usefull if you want to stuff like Linux packages (for servers mostly), some kinds of tools for Windows, engines (text search, game engines, cientific stuff, etc), basically if you want to work in the "hardcore" stuff, and you have the problem of it having to be compiled in Windows to work in Windows, in Linux to work in Linux, or patches or even certain cool "SDKs".
In case you want something "lighter" and that works everywhere, you really have to stick with java, python, javascript, actionscript, php, that sort of languages, and nowadays the companies are better to a web or mobile designer, than for a C++ coder.

thanks.
i did start off with java, i did make a few apps, clocks, pop ups. i do have java micro edition on my pc so i think i should learn how to make some good apps people would use. The amount of money going into phones ipads ect, must be some good money going in that industry if you get a good job there.

The advantage of doing apps for mobile is the fact that you don't even need to get a "job" on it to win money.

For instance, I have a friend of mine who's a great programmer actually, he knew quite a lot of java and gave it a try on developing android apps and placing them in the market. You have to pay a small fee to be able to open a dev account in the google market, but you only pay 1 single time. He started to develop very basic apps and some he made free and others paid, but very cheap (around 0.99$ each). He didn't win much money yet, specially because the way he's doing this "business" (he's an open source developer, the paid versions are mostly a "donation" version as a "thank you" if you want), however he already won enough money to get back the fee value he paid to enter the market, from now on is all profit for him.

Also he got a job in a very good programming company/organization doing exactly android apps, and he's really getting a good sum of money, and he's still pretty much a noob at mobile and android alltogether.

The thing is, you have to know very well what you're doing there, because unlike a PC, the mobile resources are extremelly limited, and it just takes a small flaw for your app to not be seen with good eyes (flaws like: memory leaks, stack overflow, and crashes in general).

Whats up? Well my pc`s power supply died last week, I am still pc-less, since it looks like something else got brocken with that as well. Apart from that, I am fine.
About to be non-active
My very last UT map project: CTF-FacePalm (tropical CTF-Face remake)
Why do I leave? click here
What I want to do next: Joining an UDK team (uncertain however) and improve 3D modelling and texture editing skills
Thanks to those who visibly supported me until/at the end!
My reactivated account on indiedb.com.
