Ozar Midrashim.

Post by KeeperUTX »

Once again it is I! Well, this time, I've got a cool song arriving from the Legacy of Kain series, Ozar Midrashim, first appearance in Soul Reaver.

What do you think? Wouldn't this be an awesome song for a dark, sinister map? :tu:
Image This is Eevee, a ferocious creature that never relents in tracking its meal. It will lead you to ruin, and when it does, it will finish you.
The way it bobs its head lefty-righty? It's just cracking it's neck so it can get a better grip on you with its jaws.

Very nice, but copyright.
A mashup of it would be fine.

I tend to favour good quality tracker mods, as they keep the file-size down, and there are plenty available.
There are a few prepared for UT here http://my.opera.com/Unreal-Tournament/blog/music
And links to loads more.

If you compare the audio quality, you will notice that the MP3s suffer when converted to UMX files

What do you mean by 'copyright' ??

If the track if from a commercial game, then someone was paid to make it.
You would need to get the author/licence/copyright holder, to allow it to be used.

Mashup/Mash-up/bootleg/Bastard-pop music is generally copyright-free.
You just need to notify the producer of your intention, or credit them the same way you credit any resource.
(Commercial mashups you would need to pay licence for, would include Prodigy and Fat-Boy-Slim)

Click on the link in my sig to find free mashups. You will find mashups of every genre of music imaginable!
(Tell me your tastes and I can recommend.)

Well, I just wanted it for myself as a UMX file, not for public use, dude ;)

So how do I convert MP3 to UMX? (please explain in simplenglish!)

Otherwise, I think I lean mainly towards techno.

I keep meaning to re-write that very tutorial. You can find a few, but they are out-dated, and often copies of each-other.

http://www.planetdeusex.com/heliowalton ... to-Umx.htm
http://www.ehow.co.uk/how_7314965_convert-mp3-umx.html

Use whatever you prefer to convert the MP3 into a WAV (I use Winamp or Audacity).
You can load the MP3 straight into Audacity, and do most of the work there (frequency and bit-depth reduction)

If you do not want to distribute the map you add it to, then you do not need to worry about reducing the quality so much, but the file will be massive.

Massive? Just don't tell me a harmless 8MB map can turn into a 8000MB monster if that is done! :ironic:

I have a few 60MB songs that are 4min. Even that 8MB can be pushing it (a bit of a big download when you join a server, imagine if the map uses about 5 of them)!

80 min audio CD = 700MB
1 minute of WAV audio @ 44100 KHz 16bit = 8.75 MB

Average song length 3 or 4 minutes = 26.25 or 35 MB

This is why the quality often gets reduced to 8bit, 11025 KHz
The filesize is dramatically shrunk, but so is the quality of what you hear.

Compare the original, to the "Alice In Kombat" UMX on my site, and you will hear the difference.
