Build your own UT99 Papercraft Weapons

Post by Metalfist »

Always wanted to hold the Redeemer in your hands? Now you can with these paper models! Just print/cut and glue them together.
You can scale them to your liking using pepakura Designer and apply different textures if you want.
If you build one of these paper models, please post an image of it back! I would really like to see these being constructed and people enjoying them :)!
I might make more models, so if you would really like to have a certain paper model of UT99 then, please, let me know and I will see if I can make it for you.

Weapons included are:
- Chainsaw
- Impact Hammer
- Translocator
- Enforcer
- Biorifle
- Pulsegun
- Shockrifle
- Ripper (with 1 disk)
- Minigun
- FlakCannon (with 1 Flak)
- Rocket Launcher (with several rockets)
- Sniperrifle
- Redeemer

You will need Pepakura software in order to open the .pdo files. I included some tips in the Readme when using pepakura!
You can get Pepakura Designer for free here: http://www.tamasoft.co.jp/pepakura-en/

The model I constructed is 5cm h x 8,8cm w x 24,2cm d. You can scale the papermodels to your liking using pepakura Designer. You can also apply different textures. These tips are also inlcuded in the readme.

Woah! Very nice Metal, you should post that in Epic forums, I am pretty sure they will love what you just did. :tu:
Did you also made the other ones (I mean print and assemble like the shockrifle), or are they still in their digital state alone? If you could, you should do them all and post in at Epic and their deviantart account too, just to check their reactions.

If I were to print one out, would I cut along the black "Flap lines", fold them under/over and then glue them together? I think I'm gonna try this :D

I only build the shockrifle, the rest is still in digital form. I think I'll build the rest too for a nice preview photo of the pack, fix some build issues if there are and make a more detailed instruction on how to build it.

Solid black lines are the ones that you need to cut.

I made the fold lines transparent by default in the files so if you want them you can enable them. I think I'll just post the tips here :
Tips
===========
Adjust your papersize accordingly! The papersize used is A4, so if you are using Letter format you need to change it
in Settings->Print and Paper Settings->PaperSize and then rearrange the parts to fit the page.

You can resize the papermodel to your liking by going to the 2D Menu->Change Scale->Scale Factor.

If you don't/do want the fold lines, but want to keep the flaps, go to 2D Menu->Edit Mode->Eedge color
and then check "Hide Edges Almost Flat" and put the slider all the way to the left (0 Deg.) to hide the fold lines.
Slide the slider to the right if you want the foldlines to appear.

If you want to keep the fold lines, but want them more transparent:
Go to Settings-> Print and Paper-> adjust the ammount of transparancy that you want. (This affects foldlines and flaps).

You can change the texture by going to Settings->Texture Settings and replace the texture with a different one.

Use the software to easily see which parts connect to eachother.
Update: I roughly measured the weapons to each other and scaled them accordingly. So now they should be the right proportions towards each other. I'll post a picture when I'm done building them and update the file.

Awesome.
You certainly got the hang of these then.
I guess they are simpler than the 2K4 versions.

Have you thought about making any of the player models ?

ZORG-K4
Last year when my girlfriend went to clean the car with my power washer, it break down sprinkling water as hell from the handle and she asked me to fix it so she could finish what she started , I took it out to my garage and had a look at it and saw it was cracked up inside beyond repair so I saw it in pieces just for fun and screw it back together and gave it back to her and said she got something better, A ZORG-K4, THE MOST POWERFUL AND DANGEROUS WEAPON IN UNIVERSE !!!!!!!!
She looked at me as I was a total moron....
I know it dont look a UT-gun so its slightly off topic, but it looked fun and maybe try and sell to be in the next star-wars-movie...so I can buy a new power washer hehe

I took the high poly version (the ones you see in 1st person view) and they are not simplier than the ut2k4 version as I can see on that picture. If you look at the Rocketlauncher, there is more geometry, but I'll post a picture when I'm done building them.

Yes, I was also thinking about player models (and also non-player, like skaarj/cow etc.). Which one would you like?

If someone wants Nali Weapons, then I'll see what I can do

@Hitman: That's actually pretty badass imho. Good job :tu:

@Metal & Dr.Flay: Nali Weapons? I would feel honored if you actually make one of those. :)
Although the sword from Chaos-UT seems to be a good candidate for papercraft too. Did you already imagine 2 of them crossed somewhere? I think it would be awesome.

Yes, but it depends on the animation/pose, as in-game the faces penetrate themselves and you can't do that with paper irl obviously
