What if Skaarj had notion of society, besides the basic two-step Queen-workers hierarchy? I think they can't, at least in the state presented in the first Unreal game.

According to my theory, the Queen's ideals and mentality are in every modern Skaarj. That is suggested even further, because the Skaarj have insect-like life stages (Pupae), which suggests the Queen and the Skaarj (at least the known ones) are like the queen ant and her colony.

I don't know if there are more Queens, but Unreal's storyline implicitly suggests the Skaarj race are composed by only that Queen. So the thought we might have begun a whole alien race's fall into extinction (without a leader, divided house falls) everytime we beat Unreal kind of makes me pity (although I don't agree with these insect-amphibious-reptile-weird-mix thingies' actions, either).

Possible explanations for such a sharing of values and include:
  • a hivemind;
  • some "emotional copy" type thing, maybe?
  • the technology-assisted removal of the RNA instructions responsible for the proteins that form the neural areas related to empathy and emotion;
  • just some military "emotionless war machine" thing (if you have ever watched this movie The Pianist, though, which is based in a real World War 2 story, near the end
    Spoiler
    , the Polish pianist Szpilman is in a ruined building, trying to open a can, when he is foudn by a German - the latter, however, does let him play a piano and, amazed, allows the hidden life of Szpilman, even giving food at one point - so military training isn't perfect at hindering emotions).
However, I don't think the 3rd or 1st are true, and the others aren't impermeable.

So I ask you, if a Skaarj does have emotions, how would you 'reveal' them?
"Everyone is an idea man. Everybody thinks they have a revolutionary new game concept that no one else has ever thought of. Having cool ideas will rarely get you anywhere in the games industry. You have to be able to implement your ideas or provide some useful skill. Never join a project whose idea man or leader has no obvious development skills. Never join a project that only has a web designer. You have your own ideas. Focus on them carefully and in small chunks and you will be able to develop cool projects."

That's a good way to lose your foot, when the Skaarj foot eats yours.

Feet are overrated.
In UT you can't see your own feet... so, it works without them.
