One of the many things I like about the UT community is that there are guys that can help in almost any trouble regarding PCs, heck I'm still a complete newbie with them and without the help of some of these guys, I'd still be looking at a frosen windows screen or something :ironic:
All I can say is good luck EG.

Borrow a PSU from somewhere and try it. That will be the deciding test.

No fans or lights means PSU or mainboard for sure. Let's hope it is power as that almost always ends up being the cheaper fix.

Don't go cheap with power if that is the problem though. A good brand and more than you actually need. Do watch the connectors however; I don't know how old your hardware is, but new PSUs tend to lack the old 4-pin molex connectors that older hardware/case fans rely on.

Keep in mind, depending on the age of your PC you also need to watch for the amount of wattage and amperage the current PSU can provide on the 3.3V , 5V and 12V lines. Old computers used far more power from the 3.3V and 5V lines where as newer computer tend to mainly use the 12V line(s). This information can be found on the side of the PSU.

ALSO if your computer is an old DELL be very VERY careful! Dell used to use non standard PSU's that have the same connector but that where wired differently. IF this is the case, then any non-standard Dell PSU WILL KILL your pc.
I can't find a proper source on this and I currently don't have the time to find one.

If you can give us any information(brand, age, parts), that would help us giving you more specific advice.
Until then I am going to spam you with very scary but possibly relevant information give you information that might apply to you even if it's not likely.

My current computer is only about 3 years old. The oldest thing in it was a 4GB hardrive, the E:\ drive, from the previous computer that had my original UT on it and some stuff I kept using since the 90's.

In that case any PSU (preferably a high quality brand with a higher wattage) should do.
