I've been playing Deus Ex GOTY recently and I've noticed a few similarities to Unreal And Unreal Tournament...
Same music format, same texture style and almost identical sounds not to mention the fonts.
So...What do you guys think?
Is Deus Ex and Unreal Related?

Deus Ex -> Unreal Engine 1
Unreal Tournament -> Unreal Engine 1
Yep, they're related, they're like siblings, they use the same engine (perhaps just slightly different versions), but are simply different games from different studios and all.

many games are based on Unreal Engine 1.x, Deus Ex is surely among the best known ones but there are others:

Yes, the list is long - because the engine is one of the best if not THE best
Retired.

This is really good!
Anyway, so it's possible to convert some monsters from Rune?

Possible? Yes. Legal? That's questionable. They're still different games from different studios, so using anything from another game into UT may breach their copyright directives (it mostly goes down on whether they still care about that nowadays or not).ASLYE702 wrote: Anyway, so it's possible to convert some monsters from Rune?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mobile_Forces ...also an Unreal1 engine game??UTPe wrote:many games are based on Unreal Engine 1.x, Deus Ex is surely among the best known ones but there are others:

They have vehicle physics ...how much did they edit the engine for that?

Re: Is Deus Ex and Unreal Related?
Well, except for terrain based vehicles, making vehicles for UT is not a big deal in reality (perhaps the hardest is just the replication part, not the actual physics).papercoffee wrote:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mobile_Forces ...also an Unreal1 engine game??UTPe wrote:many games are based on Unreal Engine 1.x, Deus Ex is surely among the best known ones but there are others:

When it comes to terrain based, the limitations rely mostly on having just cylindrical collision and the physics itself being a bit more complicated and a bit more costly, but it's not impossible.
But, if done natively (C++), even terrain based vehicles are fully possible without changing even the slightest bit in the engine itself, and the replication would be just about the same as the playerpawn replication, but with some fixes and more considerations on movement prediction and whatnot (in theory at least, from what I have checked so far one can override the way UT detects collision [hence .:..: PhysX mod being possible at all, as the headers provide the interface to override the primitives] as well how it behaves on physics).

Re: Is Deus Ex and Unreal Related?
I checked the game.
Looks like Unreal inside, except one thing - "Physics" directory in core directory of game. Contains strange files with *.COL extension, and some small exe program called Handling Editor. Cant understand what its all means yet...
One more thing that i didnt saw Editor launcher
EDIT
There's a lot of subclasses related to physics and it's all scripted.
