Epic sells Gears of War franchise to Microsoft
Re: Epic sells Gears of War franchise to Microsoft
Don't forget Mark Rein would post bi-weekly announcements that the game will be finished in two weeks.
Re: Epic sells Gears of War franchise to Microsoft
Good riddance to Gears IMO...it was never my thing. Like Bulletstorm, it just didn't float my boat. Also, it was for the most part a console game and I have never and will never own one.
As for Unreal getting sold, I can't see it. It is Epic's legacy, the one that started it all. Although Epic seems quite unsentimental about Unreal, I really don't think they would sell the name that started it all. Not like they need the money. MS were looking for something to make this new round of consoles worth buying, and familiar names are necessary...I suspect that the two factors were 1. MS threw enough money at the proposition and 2. Gears was pretty much fully explored by Epic and they probably didn't see a future for Gears at their hands.
As for what comes next for Epic, well, I wrote a long time ago that every time I play Skyrim I see what Unreal could be...glad to see Cliff also got that vibe. Anyhow, that is off-topic.

Be very very thankful MS have not bought the Unreal franchise.
If MS own it, you can bet their legal department would be watching sites like this with a microscope.
BTW. I already play "Jurassic Battlefield Halo-Life Tournament 40k rim of the living dead" using UT2004

If this were true ( thanks to god they didn't! is our game number one along with unreal and uc2) I would look for a knife and cut my head arggh!Dr.Flay wrote:Be very very thankful MS have not bought the Unreal franchise.

Not... seriously, I will feel betrayed and I would not forgive them to see sending itself like bitches my favourites unreal series games. That would mean:
- no unreal editor
- no free maps, mods, skins, etc..
- bonus content to pay in dlc mode
-community will die
I hate those games like II war wold or agfanistan or irak styles ( cod, bf, and similar games it's too unfantaseable, I cant find the exact word dunno...) beside the unrespect to play games which war happened in realife and died many soldiers, I find those games not funny so UT is my game ¡, they saved me for depression years ago ( I found great friends there before the ut became so trolling and "pro"), great game great music, great flow ..yeah

Re: Epic sells Gears of War franchise to Microsoft
After the whole franchise got shelved, and not in the best finishing note (UT3...), the odds of someone to buy it are very very slim, so don't worry.
Microsoft only bought Gears since it still is popular after years and is still generating revenue, thus investing money in Gears is a very good investment, and thus once they saw a good opportunity to get it, they did.
