Hey,
i'd like to hear your opinions about the upcoming Arena Shooter Toxikk. The game wants to bring back "fragging like 99" and UT seems to have influenced the devs quite a bit. It has dodging, alternate fire modes and "simelar" weapons.
tbh i don't know what to think about the game at this moment. However yesterday some gameplay trailer got released.

Gameplay Trailer:
First Trailer(Debut Trailer):

Only saw a Rocket Launcher and Rifles... Needs a bit of variety between those :/.
Doesn't look bad though. Seems the Arena FPS is making a comeback this year ;).

It would be nice if it was a new game.
From what we can see, this is actually a carbon copy of UT2004 with UT3 visuals. It looks nice and UT2004's gameplay means it will be extremely solid and good. But it's just a clone. The trailers show dodging, wall-dodging, rotating rocket launchers, machine-guns, sniper rifles, some kind of (flak) shotgun, some kind of (pulse/link) plasma rifle, vehicles which are rebranded Raptors, hellbenders, etc.

There's nothing wrong is it, it looks like it takes inspiration from all the good things: a good game and good visuals. But it's nothing more than UT2004 with nex graphics. I'd rather have the original games with its tons of mods, skins, etc.

Howevern what would be very nice would be if it had great success because that'd help bring back the manly, hysterical arena-fps we love.

Yeah it's a bit of a clone thing going on there. I would have liked to see some team games like CTF demoed but...

Dunno what it is with 'shiney' skins and models nowadays. Didn't like it then and don't now. Much prefer the look of UT99...

it actually looks really cool .. gameplay and all.

also a very reasonable price.

http://toxikk.com/store/

they seem to have some alpha / beta thing going on as well (much like UT4).

there is talk of different Gametypes so CTF is likely. and also a SDK. for modders etc.. including skinning and such.

after testing the current build of UT4 personally I don't like it..
it feels still very heavy and restrictive. but this game actually looks cool and maybe a new direction to look towards.

:)

billybill wrote:I thought it looked alright. Like a UT3 with new textures and weapons. I didn't like the HUD because can't see a weapon bar. However, UT99 still trumps it except for the high def graphics. As for UT4, it's a long way off. I thought they had shed that bulkiness feeling and used UT99 physics and size for everything? You can't judge weapons yet and there are no textures so there's not much to say about anything but the two I mentioned, in fact it looks too much like UT3 that's why it's a pre alpha you played :P

Looks like some early access proprietary clone of xonotic.

^exactly this and we know how that went.
It has been tried before and it has failed before. Only the old big titles can attract the amount of players needed for this like UT and Quake.

Also it's kinda ironic that it only shows what it doesn't have. No this, no that, no nothing, no fun?? What does it have :P?
No free to play or "free" is kinda a big issue for them I think as nobody wants to buy/play a FPS arena where there aren't enough players. It's really hard to get off the ground.
And with the Quake live on steam and the upcoming UT, why would they want to play this?

And that you don't need to buy 4416418 stuff at 0.99€ each to have all the maps, skins and so on, I believe.

I got impressed by that trailer.
The game overall looks very good. Some weapons need to be re-skinned, especially that Plasma Rifle. I guess this game is based on Unreal Technology which is written at the bottom of the site.

So not bad at all.
