Free games that rock
EVERYTHING on this list was made available by there developers and is 100% legal to download. THERE IS NO PIRATED CONTENT ON THIS THREAD.
Nexuiz
Alien Trap
Windows, Linux, Mac
http://www.alientrap.org/nexuiz/
Powered by a heavily modified (more like re-written) Quake engine and using elements from Quake III: Arena and a little bit of Unreal Tournament this is old-school at it's best and in my opinion the purest form of deathmatch.
Marathon Trilogy
Bungie
Windows, Linux, Mac
http://www.bungie.net/Forums/posts.aspx ... =1#8130839
We've all heard of Halo. Marathon is the other sci-fi first person shooter developed by Bungie back when they were still developing on the Power Macintosh PCs before Windows 95 changed everything. Marathon set standards for games like Halo (Marathon 4?) and pretty much every other FPS ever made and still to this day is one of the best games ever developed. There isn't an installer for this trilogy, but there is a set of instructions that tells you how to put it together and get it running.
Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory
Splash Damage
Windows, Linux, Mac
http://www.splashdamage.com/node/57?s=4 ... f8f14fa623
The stand-alone multiplayer addon for Return to Castle Wolfenstein is 100% free to download off of the official web page.
Urban Terror
Frozen Sand
Windows, Linux, Mac
http://www.urbanterror.net/page.php?6
This started as a mod for Quake III: Arena (you can still run it in Q3A if you want to), but became a stand-alone free game after Q3A's source code became open.
Laser Age: Gold
Ingava
Windows (XP users change compatibility to Windows NT with disable Visual themes and Turn off advanced text services for this program checked. Linux users your out of luck, this program slows down a lot in WINE.)
http://www.download.com/LaserAge-Gold/3 ... g=pdp_prod
This is a Phoenix/Galaga hybrid with huge waves of enemies, bad-ass bosses, and powerups. The developer and the page this was originally posted on has been gone for almost a decade now, but you can still download this awesome freeware game from Source Forge
Warsow
Development team here: http://www.warsow.net/?page=team
Windows, Linux (check your software repository), Mac
http://www.warsow.net/?page=download
This is exactly what happens when you take some of the fastest arena combat and mix it with Jet Grind Radio. This game rocks.
The Battle for Wesnoth
Development team here: http://www.wesnoth.org/wiki/Credits
Windows, Linux (check software repository), Mac
http://www.wesnoth.org/
A fun turn-based strategy game.
Astro Menace
Viewizard
Windows, Linux, Mac
http://www.viewizard.com/download.php
An awesome 3D-rendered arcade style space shooter complete with an upgrade system. This game borrows elements from games like Galaga and Silpheed (Sega CD Classic shooter).
Armagetron
Armagetron Advanced Team
Windows, Linux (check software repository), Mac
http://www.armagetronad.net/downloads.php
A fun Tron clone that can easily snatch a few hours of your life.
Rockstar Classics- Grand Theft Auto, Wild Metal Country (aka Reclaim the Future), and Grand Theft Auto 2
Rockstar Games
Windows
http://www.rockstargames.com/classics/gta.html
Rockstar made three of their first games available for free off of their website.

Re: Free games that rock
A vote for Nexuiz, I've played it some time ago and it was great for a free game. It had bots, fun gameplay and multiplayer, smilar gametypes as in UT (DM, CTF, DOM). Heck, it even has it's own version of Face.
Great free game.
Great free game.

Re: Free games that rock
There's nothing like swinging through maps like Spiderman with your grappling hook in a CTF match. The ONLY things I hate about Nexuiz is there are a lot of frame hitches if you play on junk hardware (less than 1.5 GHz processor, less than 128MB Graphics) and the current shotgun model looks like some plastic kids toy (although they're correcting this). Other than that though Nexuiz is the ONLY other arena FPS that can compare to Classic Unreal Tournament.Raynor wrote:A vote for Nexuiz, I've played it some time ago and it was great for a free game. Re: Free games that rock
Finally found this thread (paper plz don't lock it!)!
A great list of truly freeware games can be found over here:
http://www.techsupportalert.com/best-free-pc-games.htm
Free games that I play every once in a while:
http://www.thewayoftheninja.org/n.html
N (yes, the name of the game is N) is a very addictive (and frustrating a bit) platformer game that has you control of a little ninja. Dodge opsticles like rocket turrets, mines, robo thwups and more to reach the exit while collecting gold nuggets. After 8 years, in 2013 May, N has received a major update to it (only found out about that today lol). Level editor included
http://gene-rally.com/
GeneRally is an awesome arcade racing game, that also has a level editor included but also an unofficial car editor. There's new palettes, sounds, fonts and much much more to download for it.
http://www.cavestory.org/
A fantastic platformer that had everything done perfectly!
