Owwww, now you have distributed the map "DM-CMC-NaliPsyenceX.unr", not the DOM map (and this DM map has an invalid Texture "MyLevel.RailButtons" (I think it has more than 8 bits color depth)).
FruitBicks! I uploaded the wrong one sorry... the DM was a VERY early version (it had a train).

NO MORE UPDATING AND FIXING, THE CONTEST IS OVER!!!

If you want to fix your map keep them private for now, until Gecko collect them for the Mappack.
Every other entry past the deadline will be denied for the voting.

@UnrealGGecko You should have linked all the downloads to the first page and not the threads.

Anyway. I'll help you with the participants vote thread.

I think any fixes should be kept private until the actual voting is over, otherwise I am pretty sure that even versions which clearly are not up for voting but are better or fixed, will bias the voting itself.

EDIT: Btw, as for the final mappack, for when is it scheduled its release? Perhaps on October 30th, just before Halloween?

As I am busy writing the reviews I find this topic most useful.

I read & re-read the topic a lot, and must search for it time after time.

At the risk of ridicule and smiley attacks, I can't vote for paper's & jack's Mansion map.

The maps are supposed to work with ChaosUT, according to the rules, and that map seems totally unaffected by the mod.

Somehow I found a few maps very functional - tested with updated Chaos of course - so it seems that people can use PathNodes as longs they were not paying for them, some dude has even overloaded the Level with nodes - way too many useless ones, Net problems were NONE, so... at least player voting seems possible... those maps were entirely respecting contest rules... Greetings and RESPECT !

A question little bit off topic:
I have ChaosUTMedia4.u (9.058.945 Bytes) on server but in the ChaosUT 1.1 package the same file exists with size 6.872.338 Bytes.
Should I replace this file on the dedicated server with the v1.1 one or is it possible that some maps won't run anymore?

I did not study all files, in update (where I'm still awaiting some testers) I'm using v1.1 which will be conformed. That file is not the mutator core, it has probably some of those textures and things removed later and mixing mod different in a so to speak non-compilable and non-updatable way.

However I will not feel bad at dropping an eye there, difference seems pretty significant...
As a last resort if this change will impact some map I will teleport stuff from there in some updated version and adding an updated file and information about what was going on in this mod. I'm not sure if smaller file has more stuff than the bigger one... because if old version has a mesh used in a map and newer version doesn't have that mesh (removed later) then a game-crash is more than expected and is a logic one, or it does include a string crusher removed so that content was not used in any Level. Only original developers can answer (or not) at some questions like these.

Edit: I'll post differences in that update speech MH related - yes, they do have differences.

I agree with EG on this. Contest maps should work with ChaosUT Mod and should support ChaosUT weapon and other pickup placement.

Thoughout all the discussion prior to the formulation of the rules and all the post formulation discussion in other threads (ChaosUT Issues Thread for example), it has always been my understanding that the maps should work with the ChaosUT mod (and the content and flow of that discussion supports that understanding) - the contest is, after all, called ChaosUT Mapping Contest - that is, making a map with a CHAOS theme in which the ChaosUT mod can run - the core of the ChaosUT mod is the weapons - there isn't, to be honest, a lot else is there? Some sounds and a few decos but mostly weapons. A Chaos map without the Chaos weapons isn't really a Chaos map at all.

It follows that there was no need to specify in the rules that the maps should work with the ChaosUT mod and with the weapons in particular. The caveat about weapon placement was designed to ensure that the maps could ALSO be played with default UT weapons should someone so wish.

Why do you think I spent a lot of time testing the ChaosUT mod in a wide variety of maps and reporting issues to do with the Chaos weapons and ammo if I did not expect these to be used in the contest maps??

I had fun making this map and getting beyond the boundaries of what was deemed possible in this Engine.

Given those "rules" about taking "textures from Chaos" I think I can do some crapped on purpose as a sample map which will crash instantly any client and server so far using any Chaos version, LOL, due to stuff done different from an update to another update by FACTORY ITSELF - thanks dudes...
I can use both assets and then all will go badly screwed up, they did not even bother to merge these things for not ruining possible maps done using different generations and running in the same server.
This contest was a dumb idea anyway, blame me for what I'm saying but this is the whole truth. This mod is crapped at extremes - the best deal is to NOT USE NOTHING from it - MyLevel is in charge for full compatibility with versions in case of some "map chaosification" - yeah, MyLevel, MyLevel, Mylevel 300×times.
I thought that If I'll fix main mutator problems are gone, but is not that easy as it do looks like. This is indeed a Chaos said as bad terms - it might go closer to an even 0 playable stage.
In original: Bot is properly crapped, ScriptedPawn has no deal, content of media files seems different, pickups are falling from maps,+++. Any valid reason for loving this dumb thing ?

That thing is doable in multiple formats colors and tastes. Exactly this is about file "ChaosUTMedia1.u". I found a version having around 12.6 MB while the one coming with said v1.1 has 6.1 MB. It is fascinating to see a different chocolate. One has meshes set with some texture the other one has other texture over the same mesh. Merging these is not that possible then because this is a complete change, thing being said "updated" - and not even using the same names for those textures. The work around this mod is miserable, it gives you the feeling of a rat digging in garbage without having to many hopes.

For safety - at doing some fix perhaps files used in working/testing stage should be shared as well - to match things exactly. If a map will not work it happens because of their "development".

Honest =/= Competent

Back then, what I meant is that developers more often than not "honestly" try their best in creating mods and content for the community to enjoy, generally they don't create content with the intent of causing you a meltdown.
Now, as if they're competent? Sorry, most of the community isn't, this is a simple and known fact, just like in software engineering overall.

But it doesn't mean I am not going to respect their work and efforts, and doesn't mean they won't learn from their mistakes and do a better job next time, even because I was already the same way once, I wasn't born knowing how to code already, much less writing good code and designing things properly until no more than a few years ago, however I am well aware of the difference between a good job and a trashy one, despite the honest effort the developer has put into something.

Having that said, yeah, ChaosUT in terms of technical execution is quite garbage-ish, especially nowadays.
It's a great concept, with awesome visuals and whatnot, and handles some nice matches and all, but from there it just has too many problems to even begin to count.

But, it was also done in a period of time where if the code compiled, it was considered already good code, simply over the fact that the number of developers back then do not even compare to the number of developers nowadays, so although design patterns and stuff already existed even before many of us were born, or were toddlers at most, the complexity still wasn't great enough nor there were that many developers around before everyone started to realize how they were fucking things up when not using a proper coding style, version control, design patterns, and so on.
Some of these design patterns however only came around rather recently, way after UT2004 even, as well as many programming languages trying to enforce them by design.

So, although this is a nice mod to play once or twice, to use it for something more serious like a server or even for MH like you're trying to do, it's a complete dead end and a waste of time.
The only way to realistically expect Chaos to be played anyhow, is to remake the whole mod, and personally I am not up to that, I have other plans already.

The only reason I personally liked this contest to be Chaos based, is the overall theme and vibe of it, and not actually playing with the Chaos weapons in my own map.
So as far as my own map goes, whichever way Chaos works with the map, that's the way it will be, I don't really care if Chaos fucks it up and fails to spawn stuff for example, not my problem, specially with the contest being over.
