Squidy

Post by Feralidragon »

Squidy is a weapon which was first developed to enter a coding contest several years ago.
The challenge was simple: each contestant was to choose a distinct monster from the original Unreal, and develop a single weapon by using that monster as its model and skin, without importing any custom assets, only code itself was allowed.

The idea in the end was not only to have a contest (for fun), but to also have a new community weapon pack as a result.
Unfortunately however, the contest never ended and was abandoned and forgotten about, and some participants never finished their weapons.

This weapon was first developed and finished for that contest back in 2013, but it was now repackaged in order to contain its own mutators and configuration, so it can be freely tweaked and played with as any other standalone weapon mod.

Also, this marks the start of a series of some UT99 videos concerning some of the weapons and mods (and maybe even a couple of maps) that I have made over the years, before I get to start new content.
The video template that I created above has also the author stamped on it since I am not quite sure at the moment if I am going to also do videos from mods and maps from other authors in the future with the same format, but time will tell.

It will take a while before actual new content is started at all, which won't happen before I finish something else first (been making progress though), but in the meanwhile I can revisit some of the existing stuff and do 1080p60 HD videos of stuff I was unable to before, and I have been meaning to do some more descriptive videos of each mod/weapon for some years already, even because there were some times they were needed and I didn't have them.

Next in line (video) will likely be about a very old mod (pre-NW3 era) which I never officially released: X-Vehicles.

This almost seems like it was made for use in one of "MrLoathsome"s servers.
Insane.

Looking forward to the X-Vehicles vid, as I never got round to playing with them.

That's because I released this weapon back in 2013, but only now I made a more "official" release of the weapon with a few more things in it (mutators and configuration). :)

I remember this weapon contest ...I have somewhere Jack's SushiGun and the Waspinator. Have to look after it.

Edit-----------------------------------
If someone could make a mod out of them, this would be great.

Edit2----------------------------------
Put my test map as well into the zip.
Those are the only finished Animal weapons ...they are crazy.
And the fun part is the Squidy can be combined with the Waspinator ...An explosive squid rides a homing wasp and both are gonna get you. :ironic:

WARNING: this Squidy version is not a mutator. Feralie's newer one is much better.

I just remembered something.
If this is using the standard resources, will this have high res textures if used with JackGriffins HD pawn update ?

The Squidy is great fun - I have the original version but this configurable new version is a great improvement. The video format is very cool as well.

Is it my set-up or is there a bug with both the SushiGun and the Waspenator? I can fly OK with the Waspenator but using the primary fire sets my health to 0. Similarly, using the secondary fire of the SushiGun sets my health to 0, though the primary fire is OK.

Quite a few - I've taken them all out one by one and tested it but with no change in the result. The reduction in health to 0 with the Sushigun happens when the secondary fire projectile explodes.

I just tried the included map DM-Kinderzimmer_test.unr (locally and without any other mutator) and I could not notice such an effect. :noidea

I have run that map from the UT start-up via the console and, like you, everything worked fine, no reduction in health. I've also run UT without mutators and tried summoning the SushiGun in another map and, again, did not get a reduction in health when the secondary fire projectile exploded - so there must be a conflict with a mutator (which I am now trying to trace by putting the mutators back in one by one).

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------EDIT--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Found the conflict - it's the NWUltraGoreSSEb mutator that conflicts with the SushiGun (secondary fire exploding projectile) - and it does with the Waspenator (primary fire) as well.
