Are there commands to spectate specific players?
Are there commands in the game to view specific players when spectating?
I want to set up a system for optimal spectator viewing so i could stream a tournament. I can set the console commands for behindview to a key. I'm wonder what commands there are to view specific players, if at all possible. I'd like to set keys so that when they are pressed it views a specific player, and then onrelease switches to behindview 0.
I'm not sure what options there are to set viewing to a specific player when the given player name might change. Perhaps if I could view the player in first or second or etc? Even if I could set it to an unknown arbitrary player number it would be helpful. Honestly even if I had to name a specific player, I could manage to work with that.

If you haven't tried XConsole, might be interesting for you.

And try if xspec command work, if not let me know as it may need to be added manually.
I'll give you some specific custom spec command that works with xconsole.

What does Xconsole do? The page doesn't actually say anything about what it does.Chamberly wrote:If you haven't tried XConsole, might be interesting for you.

tHE SAME KEY-SETUP YOU USE TO SWITCH FROM PERSON TO PERSON WHILE IN SPECTATOR MODE...oops, sorry about that.
Some people change it, but I believe its your default primary-fire key... just keep hitting it until you get to the specific player you want. Hit your alt-fire to go directly back to yourself.
This is my using it to view from one of my bots:

You can shift your perspective so as to see what the bot specifically is looking at from its perspective, and then out again; that's F9 and F10 for me currently. It's especially fun to do this with monsters, pop into their viewpoint to see what they're looking at.
Like so:

I know there's a way to do it with the NUM-LOCK keys too, done it accidentally and freaked out when my viewpoint switched to a bot.

Re: Are there commands to spectate specific players?
I'm starting to question how much I want this afterall.
I just got back from this year's gaming con, and I was trying to broadcast a spectator view during the tournament. I kept running into a bug where the first-person view got tilted somehow, and it wouldn't get corrected. IIRC, it even stayed that way between some of the matches. So I wound up just staying in third-person and spinning the camera around to try to keep the view "interesting."
So I'm thinking I might just settle for that mod that keeps the spectator camera locked pointed in the same direction as the player.

Re: Are there commands to spectate specific players?
I have two keys which I'm using nearby defaults:
- one is doing behindview 1
- other is doing behindview 0
I'm not sure if I do need more keys here...

Also makes the crosshair moving of the player less ''jibberish'' and more smooth when spectating.
