Textures have too much contrast

Post by tedomedo »

I mean, light textures are shown too light and dark ones are too dark. Perhaps this is related to saturation or gamma, i don't know.
I use 436 patch, does 451 improve graphics? I have Nvidia GT 630, can i do something in Nvidia Control panel to fix textures' brightness? Can i do something in unrealtournament.ini?
Please, help.

You need fitting graphic drivers.

I've been having tweaking UT settings link in my UT folder for 6 years so i know this.
Here's an example, look at attached image (image taken from unreal edit to see it really like in the game), there you see how ctf-inferno looks like. Textures have annoying high saturation, floor is damn light. Are used textures somehow broken? This map doesn't use own textures. Please, let me know how do you see this map. You can download CTF-Inferno here: https://www.utzone.de/forum/downloads.p ... TF-Inferno then open it in unreal edit, press printscreen and show image. Unless you already know what's wrong in my textures or settings or somewhere else.

This is what it looks like for me in UEd

Yeah, i just tried both and found out. In direct3d ctf-Inferno looks well but everything else (intro, menu screen, most of maps) is very dark. But in opengl everything is better except this map which is too light with too dark inner corners. So, should i modify something in unrealEd for ctf-interno in order to play it in opengl without sunglasses? Or can i do something else?

I have a vague memory that I had something similar with that map but I can't be sure - that's not of use though.

You refer to the UnrealEditor but what's it like when you just start the game normally from UnrealTournament.exe? The same?

Personally, if I get repeated problems with one map (and everything else is fine) I just delete the map - there are, after all, thousands of other maps out there to play and it probably isn't worth spending much time trying to fix a problem that only happens with one map.

Note : this map is by HE WHO MUST NOT BE NAMED and he says
Originally a old TACTICAL OPS map but found and converted back to UT by me.
The change to CTF was kinda very logical because of the maps structure.
so there may be a flaw in the map that causes your problem (or may be not but just bear that in mind).

Holly "sheet"... Of course i see damn light inferno in the game too. I just used UnEd to show image because if i use printscreen in the game, image doesn't show right lightness like in the game. But this is off-topic. Don't reply this.

Perhaps ctf-inferno was created for direct3d. Can someone see this map in UT with less saturation and lightness if using opengl?
For [OpenGLDrv.OpenGLRenderDevice] i use values from viewtopic.php?f=6&t=373

Set OneXBlending to true in the [OpenGLDrv.OpenGLRenderDevice] section, this will make lighting as in d3d.

I don't give a "phuck" for this anymore because i i was playing ctf-inferno and i don't like it, too many pickups and too short distance between flags. Moderator, you can delete this thread. Thanks anyway.

Just to round this off neatly - yes, the map does look awful using OpenGLDrv as you can see
OGL.jpg
but it's OK with D3d9Drv.

No, it's not much good as a CTF map but OK as a TDM with 'real world' weapons.

We don't really delete threads unless it's really necessary, and in case someone else runs into the problem, they can see the possible solutions here. ;)

As for the map, yes it seems like a pretty bad port (has a 1/5 rating on Mapraider). Though you can definetly find some good alternarives with enough digging around ;)
Try this one maybe?

Typical for Kaal's maps.
Bad ports and no sense for gameplay.

How very true! He even says this in the readme “ claiming this is one of the best CTF maps of all times is not exaggerated“ - which is hilarious as it is far from that.

Can it be that Kaal is in reality Trump?

Wouldn't surprise me at all if that were the case. After all, he is the kind of person who thinks they are better than everybody else.

Those are the kind of people I despise: people who act like the stuff they create is better than it really is. Contrary to the words of Kaal, calling CTF-Inferno "one of the best CTF maps" is an exaggeration, since the map itself is mediocre at best.
