Hm. Liked the original wall textures a bit more for their higher contrast. That choice is - of course - yours. Love how you define edges and forms so clearly, with and without use of color.
I agree with the contrast. Something is off, like it is too crisp or something. Have altered it again to check different shadows effects and colors to make this a bit less 'sterile', but still, meh.. (pic)
Back on the drawingtable
Still have to take a look at the suggested maps to find some textures and maybe inspiration..
If you're looking for textures, you can also take a look at this set, made for Quake 3. It has been used in UT2004 and has a nice colour set.
I agree that screenshots look nice, I'm quite fond of the plain old UT99 texture set and your lighting and layout look very nice in an oldschool way.
I am thinking I like the first post (second pic) better, so far. Hard to tell if you are not , in the map.
I think the line matching floor level peremeter the edge around the outside (border) is what makes it look better, rather than just a brick same color.
I have to agree with Red_Fist.
The newer version looks already better but there is something missing ...something which would break up the slightly monotone pure brick wall.
Getting there..
Although the base texture of the wall (bocks) is not made by me, would not know how to make something like this, after some tutorials I am getting a little better in to altering the textures into something I want..
To create textures is not an easy task... especially for a low poly game.
You have to work with contrast and colours to compensate the missing details in the BSP.
Generally not much of a fan of Egypt-themed maps, but this looks really cool Killroy!! Looking forward to the final release! Nice job, looks terrific!!!
Looking really nice so far. It's always kinda jarring for me to see boxes in an ancient themed map though (unless the ruin/temple has some high tech bits mixed in at places)
So, i re-textured te whole map with ut2004 textures, which looks pretty awesome, if I say so myself..
Also did some altring the flow by re-editing the geometrics, but i will not bore you guys with that.
What I want to ask is about the meshes in UT2004. It contains some awesome egyptian statues and stuff, and I also want to use faraoh statues to fill the two gaps in the wall (pic).
Does anyone know how I somehow can export the mesh of that statue out of ut2004 and then import it in ut99. I tryed, but every time it seems to lock up, or doesnt show up, so I am doing something wrong.
It can be done, but I have seen the meshes in some ut99 maps, I just dont know how.. So help.. PRef. step by step so I can see where I go wrong.
Thnx for for the map reference, It really helped! It did not work with exporting as a t3d, but I copy and paste it into the map snd it worked! No lockups or disaperences..
Thanx!
