Issues with characters in Kill / killingspree / multi kill messages

Post by -XtremE- »

Hey UT gang,

After 16 years or so playing this game and always wanting to change on screen messages, I finally came across a simple tutorial on how to do it in botpack.int.

However, when using the "≫" symbol or any other special character for that instance it shows as "Å≫" in game,

You can see from the pictures below what I'm talking about

How it should be -

How mine is-

Any advice on how to fix this would be great :)

Do you happen to play on Linux?
Or is the server hosted on Linux?
Something with Unicode characters it seems.

Question to rule causes out would be, do you have this on all the servers you play on?

Nope i'm windows 10 on an overpowered machine...
The screenshot with correct characters is from a french guy so I thought that it is possible installing ut in french would lead to different allowed characters...

I can use symbols like ≫ in my name and they show normal... just the botpack messaging which doesn't show correctly.

My screenshot is from practice mode however it does the same on public servers too.

Thanks to 'lol' for inboxing me with a fix.

So make sure you use Notepad++ for changing the .int file.
I used the » symbol and then changed encoding of the file from UTF-8 to 'ANSI' which is what I guess ut99 engine uses, this then showed the symbol as ».

I simply deleted the Â, saved and everything is now fine :)

thanks.

Next question, is there a way to keep all of the 'double kill/multi kill' messages the same size as they increase in scale when they get to multi.

Thanks!

Your welcome!
I don't get what are all these have to do with tutorial section. Is this a tutorial ?

PS: I'm happily adding restrictive policies in servers managed by me against people using malformed strings. I got tired of all junks thrown in Nexgen log files.
