DOM-NeonJupiter

Post by ExpEM »

This is a stand alone version of my yet to be finalised entry for the Ridiculous Mapping Contest and has the 'Monster' stripped out of it while I finalise it.

Enjoy and let me know what you think or if you find any bugs/HOMs.

Nice map - interested to see what the 'monster' is :gj:

It's not all that relevant but the vacuum zone doesn't kill scripted pawns, though it certainly does kill players.

Didn't realize it was a DM map...thought it was a DOM. Still pretty cool...maybe some low gravity? Reminds me of 1 building in Morpheus.

Thanks!

I actually modified the VacuumZone so it would only effect Players and Bots, when the Monster is revealed you'll understand why it doesn't get damaged by it. Also Spectators can fly in the zone without FOV getting borked.

It is a DOM... Or did you mean you thought it was a DM?
I tend not to use low gravity in maps as I dislike the 'floaty' jumping, too much time in the air and not on the ground. Coupled with how small this map is one would just be shot off of the tower repeatedly with low gravity in play.

I was wondering when you'd get back to this.

I haven't forgotten, I've been working on many, many (many) renditions of the monster to get the feel right.

Selection of 1 control point is interesting, though not entirely unheard of. Makes fighting a bit more intense as everyone's after the same spot, though makes the game last much longer depending on what the final score is set for.

Yes, of course - silly me - had it in my head that killing the monster would be part of the game and players would get a frag for doing so but obviously not.

Have an idea of what the monster might be so will wait and see I'm correct.

The map makes a nice 1-on-1 DM map as well - good fun.

Played on this map for a bit yesterday, and from what I saw, it plays quite well. Rather interesting as well; not very often do you see Domination maps with only one control point.

One-DOM maps are very rare ...and I love them.

I did notice someone made a seperate gametype for 1 CP maps, called Conquest.

Really not the most needed gametype, don't think it even adds or changes anything except that the maps have 1 control point, but I do use it just so I'd have a lower score goal setup than the regular DOM maps.

Opinions are like the farts.
Everyone farts but every of them smells slightly different.
But all of them smell bad.
...
What was the question again?

Really like that hologram, and the map style reminds me of Nahand's TDC map and DM-Scorpion, nice and clean all around, love it! :gj:

Spoilers here:viewtopic.php?f=5&t=14278
Anything like you imagined?

EDIT:
Other prototypes were:
-War of the worlds tripod crossed with a warhammer 40k warhound titan.
-Armoured blimp with artillery mounted in the gondola.
-Various walkers that crab crawled around the tower or over the top.
-Hot air balloon.
-Ripping the cicada from 2k4.

Been looking at Trilobites, Millipedes, Snakes, 40k Necron vehicles, Metal Seadramon etc.
Still unsure of EXACTLY what I'm making but I'm calling it "The flying mechapeed".
