Microtransaction Zone website

Post by TankBeef »

I discovered this website, microtransaction.zone , don't know how many have seen it, or how accurate it is, but it is supposed to show which games have microtransactions, and which types. BTW, UT99 shows up as a spotless microtransaction-free game. :lol2: Times have changed indeed. Here: https://microtransaction.zone/Game?id=17448

I don't think the site usefully describes old games like Quake 2
Expansive Expansions
Paid DLC reminiscent of traditional expansion packs. Actual content for actual money
Yes, because it is exactly that, not "reminiscent"
Table For One
Multiplayer contains additional monetization, but single player doesn't
That needs substantiating, because as far as I can tell the multiplay side of it is just like the UT world

I was not trying to poke at Quake 2, just found it interesting it was labeled like that. And to be fair if you would label Unreal in there it would also have the Expansive Expansions thing on (because Return to Napali)

EDIT: ok just double checked, the Unreal games + RTNP ARE in the database there, but they aren't labeled yet.

Well, this is part of the reason why I wanted to know how "accurate" the website is. To be fair, I will admit right away that I do not personally like the microtransaction model, I grew up with the "buy the game and you are done" one. But I will admit that it is the model that works and brings lots of revenue these days. At least it would be nice to know if I decide to try a new game, that I won't spend hours downloading and installing and patching, to later find out that I would spend more than expected to be able to enjoy the game. Or that there would be a lot of gambling.
