Re: Vote for the '21 mapping contest theme/restriction!
I need to de-rustify myself before entering. And deciding what to do.
Since "no rules" is the clear winner that means "map covers" are allowed, isn't it? Because I have something in my mind.

ProTip 2: anybody who uses the "Royal We" when making a demand wants to pass their own opinion as everyone else's.
ProTip 3: Only the people that do nothing but criticize don't make mistakes. Do things. Make mistakes. Learn from them. And screw those who do nothing but throw poison and criticize.
ProTip 4: If the Duke Nukem Forever fiasco wasn't enough of a lesson, perfectionism leads to nothing positive. Don't be afraid of releasing a buggy product. Even the most polished product has its flaws.

The first thing I need to do is to get some of my old tools back, then set up VSCode with UE1 UScript, and before I actually start to work on something for real I need to test some stuff out, both new stuff I want to experiment with, as well old stuff I forgot how it worked.
The whole thing currently feels like:
What do you mean by "map covers"?Neon_Knight wrote: ↑Wed Sep 01, 2021 6:40 pm Since "no rules" is the clear winner that means "map covers" are allowed, isn't it? Because I have something in my mind.
If you mean map editing, although the contest is "no rules", naturally the point is to do a brand new map (unless I misunderstood you).

Re: Vote for the '21 mapping contest theme/restriction!
How about what NOT to do.
1). No knock-offs of Zahltag
2). No knock-offs of Deck16 or Facing Worlds
3). NO CASTLES (unless your name is Robert A. Wey)
4). And for the love'a god. . . NO LAVA MOTES or you will be instantly disqualified and banned from further competition for the next 3 years.
Lol, just kidding, but you get the idea.

Re: Vote for the '21 mapping contest theme/restriction!
no rules for the map ... but rules for the contest.
new map.
badge.
having fun... if you won't have fun you'll get disqualified.
Edit----------
if you want to send in an edited map then always remember, the people are voting.
oh and I would say if you have somewhere an unreleased beta or even alpha build ... they should be allowed.
finish them and make them awesome.

I don't know what badge means.
So it can be any gametype? Yes?
Can we start now?

Nah, edits and already done-to-death maps aren't in that idea. Mine's a map from UT3, more precisely this one, which should be good for 1-on-1.

I kind of like the 1MB challenge, I've seen some small maps that happen to be very creative at the same time.

Special texture placed on map. See previous contests:

I think answer "yes" for all questions.

Re: Vote for the '21 mapping contest theme/restriction!
The exact timings are still being defined, but thus far it seems to point towards the official start being this Sunday (5th).
However, given that Paper already said that finishing existing maps (as in, maps that are unfinished or halfway at the moment) is allowed, technically that means you started that map way before all of this, so yeah, those who want to do something can start now.
I am already dusting off my stuff myself.

I can wait until the 5th. I don't even have an idea yet.

Re: Vote for the '21 mapping contest theme/restriction!
Hey guys, I always love the sound of a mapping contest. I miss and love the editor and I have a couple ideas in mind.
Any ideas when we should start? I am going to make a siege map ( hell yeah )
also... I am also curious what 'badge' means? Like prefix of the map name?

You're free to start whenever you want.
The badge is a texture with the logo of the contest, which has been a ut99.org tradition for all contests and map packs, which is always created by Paper, and it must be visible somewhere within the map.
It wasn't created yet for this contest (Paper will create one soon), but everyone should account for it.

The question has been asked and answered more than once. So, maybe this clarification should be edited on the first post? Or why not just call it "contest logo"? I know it is longer, but I see people getting confused here with the term, so I don't know.Feralidragon wrote: ↑Fri Sep 03, 2021 1:48 pm You're free to start whenever you want.
