Update3 If you know your UEd mapping stuff and also would fancy that please consider hacking up such a map, does not need good-looking architecture/texture work or eye-candy detailing/decorating at all really.

Looking really good man, how's the bot pathing?

Edit:

I'm glad you didn't give up, and I'll let you in on a secret. I haven't done anymore on my wheel town thing for two reasons:
1: EvilGrins put the guilts into me to finish a map 10 months over due before he will do voting...
2: I'm completely stuck, I don't like the upper floors of the level but I need buildings where they are.

Also in wider news for the community, I'm down to 4 weeks of free time before my next baby is born.
Due to complications Baby will be two weeks early giving me less time than I thought would be available.

It looks cool. :tu:

Quick question: is that pink outline on purpose or an artifact from masking the texture?
I personally intend to create my own utx file with it (MyLevel it), since I intend to have my map entirely made from HD assets (maybe), including the badge, so I would like to have the full resolution version (if that's the one, I will use that one then). :)

That pink border is on purpose to give it a more glitched aesthetic.
The masked colour will be neon-green

Therefore you can use the 1024 png file if you like.
I'll create a 512 utx right now.

Do you like to have the PSD file?

OK, cool, then I am going to use that one.

The PNG is sufficient (UT can now import PNG directly anyway, and it works perfectly fine thus far), thanks.

I'll do bot pathing at the end or when I get enough to need testing bots.
Too early for that now.
But a baby...now that is exciting news. Congrats man that's super exciting.

Evilgrins is good at that guilt thing..haha

Well, I hear ya on the buildings. It's really hard to incorporate good game play in a building, other than it being a sniper perch. You'll figure it out.
I like having a lot of options as far as which way does the player go from here. If I can work out an up and a down and 4 directions , usually a decent game play idea comes out of it. Then I just embellish the heck out of it until I am fairly okay with the area. Sometimes in a building there just isn't good lines of sight to use. You have a great concept there. It will carry you through.

@papercoffee
Thanks for the badge. Not sure what to do with the utx file. I'll just make my own version pcx and mylevel it. I guess that's ok.

Hey all,

I'm gonna try to be in on this. Life's been hectic lately but with a couple months' notice I think I can swing it. I'm into the idea of making custom textures and such as well. It's something I've always wanted to try. I've never done it before and don't really know what I'm doing though so I'll probably need help with that haha.

I have most of a playable level built with some stand-in textures. It's probably not going to be revolutionary as far as visuals go but it should be pretty fun to bounce around in.
