design...photoshop? anything else?

Hi all
I have a question related to graphics design, art or 3d or whatever. How can I do this kind of images, but instead a face, do this technique with a map for example?

Need 2 pictures: wireframe and textured.
After that make two layers.
On both apply opacity mask (alpha channel).
So when one gone, second appear.

If you not have wireframe, you can use same image, but with some tools/effects, which able make edges more sharper, create second layer.
This is how second image created. Look very dirty.
