Skewing textures

Post by fudgonaut »

I open maps in UEd to see if I can pick up useful techniques or inpiration.

I happened to look at DM-FoT-Metallicide and noticed something interesting. Here's one of the textures:

Here's that texture on the ramp trim. The texture's skewed. Not rotated, skewed

I didn't know this was possible. After a little searching I found this tutorial on unrealsp.org. Pretty neat

Hopefully other mappers will find this useful too

We had this discussion many years ago ...it is possible ...but the tutorials for that are somehow incomplete.

Yep... I did something like this in a random edit...

To me it looks more realistic this way.

I haven't played around too much yet, and the tutorial on unrealsp is missing screenshots, but using poly texscale UU=1 VV=1 VU= in the console definitely works. It's probably just a matter of practicing with it, to learn any nuances/iidiosyncracies.

Here's a related quetion:

Is there a console command for rotating a texture? The rotate texture tool can be imprecise. Being able to assign a texture a specific angle on a poly would be useful in some cases.

The Texture Rotate tool doesn't always work well for pieces of trim that are at an angle -- particularly longer prices of trim.

Being able to enter precise angles using Custom Rotation in the Surface Properties interface should prove useful in those cases.

I still can't believe I missed it. I've looked at the Surface Properties interface thousands of times, and I just never noticed it.

I've only really been using the editor a lot since UEd 2.2

I was wondering... you can't miss that setting in UEd2.0 because it doesn't exist there
