Been warned about the insekt monster a few times, that it's bad for online play.

Is there such a thing as a good version where this isn't a problem?

Try the one from ASP. There's a modified/fixed version of Insekt there.

I mean the Forfeited Alliance/Assault Singleplayer Pack...
