(First map) DM-1on1-Silicate

Post by BZZZZ »

Pretty simple layout. It has 4 rooms, good for 1v1. Music is from Deus Ex. Bots supported. Not sure how balanced it is, so feel free to give advice. This took a couple months to make (i took a break in the middle) and im pretty pleased with it :D Next time i might try to make something bigger.
Enjoy!

map is good, especially for a first-time mapper

the urban background is a little too close to the arena
music is too calm

but people are too busy shooting each other to notice these issues
i am bad at rating maps but i will give this an overall 9/10

Nice first map! I would be embarrased to show you my first map, especially comapared to this one.

Couple technical things I noticed. And take note that these are just my opinions, I do not in any way consider myself to be anything other than an average (at best) mapper.
Also, these are not judgments on the map, just things to consider as you begin making more and more complex maps.

Cons. (maybe)
Brush alignment could be better. Places like where corridors meet rooms the corridor brush should terminate at the room brush.
While mapping make good use of all your views to ensure that your brushes align properly across all axis.

Brush solidity: I am not sure I understand what's going on with the non-solid trim pieces.

Texture alignment: You did great mostly. The area where the eight ball is could use some work. And perhaps the stairs.

Pros.
The map appears to be thought out.
You have actual light sources to suggest lighting.
The "skybox" is great!
You bot pathed it!
It plays.

If you have any questions in the future, just ask. If I can help, I will.

I look forward to seeing what you make next.
Time is the only form of currency that you spend without knowing your balance. Use it wisely.

Thanks! I'll keep these in mind next time.

It was possible to get stuck on the trim when moving up the stairs, not sure if non-solid brushes should be used like this though.

I often got stuck at decoration obstacles while playing and it was a nuisance for me. So I prefer non-solid decoration objects.
