About 20 years ago I started a 5v5 iCTF server inspired by a server at https://extremew00t.com/news.html , back then my old username was SabbathCat .

Since discovering the amazing community work to keep UT99 alive , with patches and master servers, I thought I'd start doing some new maps, and fixes of the old ones ( better flow/ bot-pathing / snagging geometry in level etc )

I've found a couple of my old maps in circulation on live servers, so I guess there's possibly some interest in some new stuff?

Since Flash has now gone the way of the dinosaurs, all the old videos on the site don't work, so here's some slightly less grainy video of the old map packs. I think I saw Killroy around on these forums who contributed to two of them. :)

Love w00t maps those packs had some bangers in there! I'm a lousy mapper but really wanted to make one, did start one with a similar theme to w00t_invaders a while ago but think it was another victim to an external HDD Failure, wasn't too far into it and it was super simple brushwork-wise so could try again :)

Awesome seeing one of the OG devs return, and welcome back!
w00t maps became a staple in the scene over the decades, and especially w00tabulous in the PUG scene.
We love to play w00t maps on FFN with the burger CTF gametype as well.

I figure that interest in w00t maps will always remain!

Wasn't it Unreal Playground ?
I don't think it was a woot map , maybe a 300k map 1 or 2 contest., , but there was one map that you made, (that I am trying to remember) and is killing me that I can't remember it.

Keep thinking you did something with the windows or some map you did that, maybe a twilight scene-dark, it was just so,,,not anyone else on the planet has a map(s) looks like that,,,

OH, you might want to use the new version for UT to make new stuff.

Was it Urban Joust , Watery Fowls or Groogh/Sploob ? Last two were the weirdest ones. Watery Fowls was part of a map pack and switch' once again helped me out with the networked team-lights for DOM.
Very cool to see it got some use. I think I did a DM with the same texture pack, but I can't remember what it was called to search it. :p

Am doing a game compo this weekend so no UT stuff, but will start putting some of the SE / New levels about for testing if anyone interested. Building in UnrealEd2.0 now is about 500x faster.

Now that's a name I haven read in a while. Nice to see you still kickin'.
Never been much of a woot player but I remember the maps to be quite popular back in the day. Interest in UT has obviously diminished over the past couple of years, mostly a small cult following these days. So personal take - if I ever touch the editor again, it'll be for my own entertainment and pleasure. Still have a few layout ideas lying around.
And yes, it was back in the playground days. That site was active longer than nalicity / BeyondUnreal in terms of active users and topics, iirc. WateryFowls is part of FoT3 (still listed as SabbathCat there), I have it uploaded and maintained on moddb these days. In the years between it was taken care of by FnB.

PS, always loved your unique mapping style.

I got sidelined with a game compo and responsibilities, but here's a quick preview - managed to dig out some old unreleased maps from 2007 and looking at some SE versions of old maps that bugged me with flow /layout or bot navigation.

SabbathCat !!, the legend himself, wow amazing having you back, I'm a huge fan of all your maps and also the songs that you made for your maps (my favorite ones being LovelyBoat and Sabbygibtacular :rock: ), I've also played your UT2004 maps, awesome stuff.

If you are having some issues with the patches or the new maps you are doing, just let us know, we would be happy to help :tu: . We also have a discord if you want to join, communicating in discord is easier than in the forums.

looking forward to what you are going to do next :wink:

Ah @Hostile - didn't see you there! Damn has been a few years :satan: Great to see you around :rock:

I've been mostly in a doomscrolling cycle of brainrot for the past few years so apologies to all for my lack of forum decorum :o

So I reckon I'll aim for August / September time to get the map pack out - in the meantime - I've uploaded the 'beta' versions of the maps, including all the bugs and unfinished stuff..

If anyone's interested in contributing - I've found the old 'gudelines' from the original w00t competition - https://extremew00t.com/rules.html - main things are speed, a big death-pit and strong team colouring.
