DM-Selenox

Post by Virgile »

II rarely talk about my maps, but I'm going to do it now: I'm building a new arena, now the inverted pyramid logo of Liandri makes sense.
I created all of advertisements and fake Liandri subdivisions that illustrate the map. The map isn't finished yet, so don't ask link.

The one time I will not complain about ads!

Looking forward to seeing what you'll come up with! Could add a little gloss to your textures (For example, overlay a low opacity glass texture on a different layer) or maybe a little bit of grime/dirt like you would see on a billboard or large ad monitor to make it feel more 'part of the world' but that's a small detail! The vibes of the banners are great!

this is wonderfull, make it have that Tournament/ championship UT20003 intro vibe please

Or how about making that fluid in the middle slowly heal you while you are standing in it ?

I chose to call the map Selenox: it's an arena near the moon, and it has a bit of a “SpaceNoxx” feel to it with its central opening.
I have a few things to fix, but the map is playable.

In reality, you shouldn't “bathe” in it, or you'll take a fatal plunge. The idea is to tempt the person to take a risk to catch health, which can only be obtained by making a precise strafing through the middle of the pool. x)

Cool, it would be nice if its more obvious or realisticly a near moon arena if thats possible with this engine and idea but i know the moon itself has no objects orbiting it so there is not much you can add i suppose, maybe have a very detailed moon surface with height differences as mesh not BSP.

Anyway i had idea of creating some moon map when i just 20 years ago, its fun

Is your moon surface BSP in a skybox? I guess so right? Its pretty challenging to get this look nice( i tried with a mesh yesterday ) but noticed it reacts differently to light also

Yes, currently all the exterior scenery around the arena is in a skybox.

I feel it needs some interference pillars or something to slightly clutter up the open area. large crates, things protruding from the ceiling, etc .

It's been a few months. May I please ask for an update on where things stand with this map? Itching to play...

If,,,, you did make surfaces for the sign-add, could try sheet movers and put it 2 units away from the sigh-wall.

Don't make them move, then turn things off in the mover properties, like set to ignore, or other settings.

Putting those close to a wall they will be missing while standing far away and you have to move them out farther.
Depending on the proximity, using 2 units works perfectly fine. It stems from using a non solid green small sheet that I put in a map once that caused this massive BSP hole waaaay far away on the other side of the map. So if it's not too many I opted to use movers and work online as well.

Ah, sorry Tiger, I abandoned it in favor of my cinema map. But it's on the Unreal Archive in the state I left it:
https://unrealarchive.org/unreal-tourna ... 1c5da.html

But if someone wants to rework it, I'm not fussy about it, people can do what they want with what I share. x)
