DM-BotsObstacleCourse

Post by jmartin »

The Robot Obstacle Course.

Pretty easy to see where this is going.

The Chompers don't seem to affect the bots but I left them in there anyway.

UPDATE:
Added "the swinging hammers of discomfort" and a blender. :D
Added Stadium crowd and playing field.

See final version here:

You need to post larger screenshots. I can't download it as I've nowhere to put it, and that selection preview is very tiny.

Yes!
Those are great ideas. I left the map open source in case anyone wants to try tweaking it to their own specs.

Thanks RF

Just thinking here.

Like dive into a size of about , like those they used to fill train engines with https://www.alamy.com/steam-engine-to-g ... 68375.html

That size of a tank then make the climbing height like 8096 (or higher) , use a lift exit and lift center straight down, and change the extracost to zero in the
liftcenter. use shieldbelts as bait and set their max desirability to 10. Plus I bet the diving board would need to be long so the bots don't keep cycling up again.

I wonder how high it could go (for bots) if so, you would need another set of lift exits with a different tag above the first set, but connecting the two close end liftexits, would be the problem.

Thanks Evil Grins and Red Fist for checking that out. Feel free to edit these maps any way you want.

So this is my final version of Robot Obstacle Course.

I added another track separated from the first track by a transparent wall so that the bots can compete side by side without trying to shoot each other.

DM-RobotObstacleCourseDuel has both tracks.

DM-RobotObstacleCourseDuelMax contains additional audio files.

- Made the lava pits lethal.

- Added sound effects to the Chompers and Monty Python foot.

- Added "calling a horse race" audio to the Left lane.

- Added "Sucker For Pain" *.umx music file which is not in the map but I included it anyway in case anyone wants to use it.

TIP: Try turning up the Slomo speed to watch the bots literally "race" around the course.

Thanks.

PM SENT,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, seems to work

Adding to the PM
It had to be higher so no other paths went to top liftexit.

By Jove I think he's got it!

Special thanks RedFist for solving the puzzle of how to get a bot to deliberately jump off a diving board into a pool of water.

Mine was a somewhat less elegant solution involving lift exits and an invisible trap door. :D

Your solution is much better, thanks.

A perfect addition to the robot obstacle course.

But here is the thing, the way I found out was the damn bots kept jumping off some high spot.

So if you make "extracost" zero, they keep jumping off, even to their death, or use for long sections just to make make a connection instead of huge amounts of nodes.
The default value is 400 if you go higher they stop using it pretty quick. Like 1000 has an effect.

BUT I keep wondering how high it can be and have them jump and land perfectly and even a smaller tank. Like a dot on the floor looking down,,,lol.

Yes.
I believe the dive height is unlimited as long as they hit the water.

After much experimentation, apparently, the water level needs to be at least 48 uu's deep in order to prevent damage while diving from extreme heights.

I made the pool as small as possible (radius 48) otherwise it seems Bots can't exit the pool.

I tried putting the smaller pool in the "aaa" version too, but it messed everything up. The smaller pool allowed Bots to go straight for the ShieldBelt and completely ignore the LiftCenters.

This version uses the slightly less elegant Trap Door method.

I'm sure additional tinkering would produce other equally successful alternative results.

Thanks RF for the help! :tu:

PS, there is a similar high dive in the map "DM-DeadEndDriveIn" but man, you have to hit it just right. It's the only way down from the top of the movie screen.

I think a zone has to be 70 or 80 units minimum to work right.

The tank don't need to be that small especially if they are sniffing that damn shield belt through lead lined water tanks, Lol
