UTed error

Post by [TA]Xtremephill »

Hi, i've recently come back to UT 99 after several years off, and i want to see if i can remember how to map properly, so i tried to run UTed and i get this error:

Any ideas on what to do? I have uninstalled UT and every file with it and then reinstalled and it still does not want to work :(

Thanks

At first it seems to be a problem in the UnrealShare package regarding some FX texture and its update.

But before we jump into quick conclusions, what's the UT version you're running?

Well, I asked the version because v451 breaks the editor, and anything above 436 is suitable to cause problems both in the editor or even in another maps/mods. So stick with v436.

But since it seems you have v436 already, delete the UnrealTournament and UnrealEd ini files (they will be recreated once you open Ued or UT) in a first try.

Btw, can you run the game itself without any sort of problems?

I just tried deleting the ini files and it still comes up with the error, the unrealtournament .ini recreates itself but the unrealed file doesnt.

I can run UT fine, only have errors caused by UTdc protection.

Check the edsplash behind the error window...

Download it, extract it to System, if it asks to replace, answer YES. I think that you might not have this package or the one you have is somewhat corrupted, so this UnrealShare package is good, so it might or not solve your problem by replacing it.
Btw, you deleted the Ued ini and it never was created again, that's normal, since it's only created when Ued successfully loads up, like UT itself, so don't worry, once you get Ued working, it will be created again.

And before anyone comes up with "you can't upload UnrealShare", let me say that I CAN: you can't upload nor distribute packages like BotPack or UnrealI, but you can with UnrealShare afaik, besides you can't do a thing with UnrealShare alone.

FYI...
To see what version UT you are running, look in upper right corner of the UT Game Menu window. :tu:

Assuming that you have indeed v436 (is that confirmed?), I don't really know what you should do. That kind of crashes usually happens only when you have a version superior than v436 (like v451 and so), so I am out of ideas here :?

Ok i can confirm my Unreal Tournament is version 436.

I'm able to play all my UT maps without any problems. However i open UTed, whether it be by clicking the uted.exe or opening a .unr with UTed.exe it still carries the same critical error.
