Godzilla: not originally my idea but a good one
There used to be a decent forum for ut2004, which is gone now, where I was having a chat with some folks about their gametype "Invasion". Basically it's kinda like Monster Arena, that thing that came with the initial release of Monster Hunt that nobody uses anymore...
...dunno why. Monster Arena is quite cool!
Anyway, the discussion was what are the limits to the size of monsters you can make in a game. Seeing as the maps for ut2004 are unbelieveably HUGE, could all that space be used to make an actually life-sized, insofar as life size applies to an Unreal game, version of Godzilla.
Sadly that forum doesn't exist anymore but there were a few people that thought it was possible.
http://fc00.deviantart.net/fs21/i/2007/ ... uverse.jpg
Can it be done for MonsterHunt?
Can MH ut99 have a Godzilla?
We've seen monster skins mapped over existing monsters, from the lose lame Imps & Barons (Doom) put over Krall to the much more impressive Xenomorph (Aliens) mapped over Pupae.
The largest monster I've seen to date was a StoneTitan made about 10 times larger than the normal size on one particular map.
1) Anybody think they can make a decent looking Godzilla skin, tail and all, and put it on an existing monster?
2) What is largest we could make our potential Godzilla?
Given anyone can edit fire attacks from one monster to another, or even from weapons, the flame breath shouldn't be too difficult.

Re: Godzilla: not originally my idea but a good one
Given a large enough map, yeah this is not hard. Several MH maps have really big titans at the end and if you make them correctly it works just fine. Most mappers don't understand the relationship drawscale has with other things in the scriptedpawn and often the scaled up monsters had a million health and were boring.
This was actually an MH map idea I had at one time. There were going to be buildings that could take damage and crumble and the whole map was going to be destroyable (within reason OFC). There's a lego map that can do this already and it was a good inspiration. With a little work you could make a very convincing building implosion. I did parts of this already, like the massive merc boss in MH-Portals that rides the train in.
As for the Godzilla, you'd need a modeller for that. Nothing existing comes close enough to it. If you get the model made and animated I'll do the map, and do it like it deserves to be done. When I was a punk kid staying up to watch the old Japanese "God-zirra!" movies has a fond place in my memories.
I know exactly what you are proposing here and I'd do it right.

Re: Godzilla: not originally my idea but a good one
I'll keep you in mind if i can find people for other stuff. Yeah, I was watching Godzilla when i was a kid, the badly dubbed stuff, and then in the late 90's again when I found subtitled new Godzilla films. Soooooo much better.
There's an Assault map built on the concept, 1 team is normal sized the other team is giant monsters, where the goal is to destroy a city or defend it. I hadn't thought beyond getting a workable Godzilla...
Ideas, ideas, ideas...

BTW: I would like to have new pawns as well, but we have to face it. If modders are not making them on their own, there is no way getting stuff like this. Why else do you think people were like "omfg new pawns" as they found my monsterhunt map some years ago. I gathered anything and everything I found.

me wrote:The complete model would be needed to re-animated. Nobody might do something like that! This is a hell of a job! Not even years ago with a way more active modding community I think anybody would have agreed to do this. Today you are better of about to be independent as much as possible with content creation of any sort. Overall if you request something other people better know in return about your created stuff. This means if you request something, you should show something selfmade by yourself as well, to let people have faith in you that you are able to finish something... if you would be new in the modding community of a game, you surely could not request 100 new modelled, skinned and animated new pawns. The amount of work and difficulty of your request also depends on your own reputation and maybe previous work results (maps, mods ...) --- but like I said: If you can create/"get" most of the stuff by your own, it is way better, even if it takes longer.
Well of course people can just stay silent but at the end you might be disappointed and maybe even angry for not getting replies at all. What do you prefer? Learning the "hard truth" or never figure out why you might have been "ignored" in these matters?AlCapowned wrote:Delacroix, Creavion's earlier post was right. Like I said, the whole model would have to be rigged and animated. It takes time to match Epic's animations, and I'm saying this from personal experience. Animating the slith and skaarj hybrids was time consuming; if either of them had four arms and two wings, I would still be working on their animations. Throw in a new skin based on one texture, and this whole thing would take a very long time to do. I am working on skeletal animations for a nali, so if someone is able to make a new model and skins, that might make things easier. You really shouldn't expect anything, though, but I'm just being realistic.

What I want to do next: Joining an UDK team (uncertain however) and improve 3D modelling and texture editing skills
Thanks to those who visibly supported me until/at the end!

Yeah we got BIG nasties for UT99, like the "MegaTitan".
See this thread for my similar idea but based on the Film "Cloverfield"
http://www.ut99.org/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=2885
And you can see how I've used them in a map I'm converting.

Re: Godzilla: not originally my idea but a good one
Given some people have adapted models into monsters, there's a viable existing one that could work for a Godzilla monster.
Steg was the last model released from Skin City before it crashed and stopped accepting anything new.
Other than the face, which looks more like a dino sex doll, it's a workable form someone could adapt into a Godzilla monster. It'd just need to be made taller and possibly get an actual reptilian snout with teeth in it.
I skinned the heck out of it as the original model had no team colors.

Re: Godzilla: not originally my idea but a good one
Instead of making a new thread, cuz folks hate that, how hard is it to take a player model/skin (like the one featured in the screenshots above) and turn it into a monster?
I'm thinking I can make that steg into a Godzilla.
Additionally, how hard is it to give a player model/skin a projectile ability without carrying a weapon?

I saw few dino models which would suit Godzilla, at least more than that stego above would.
I think map name where I saw them is MH-JurassicParkv1

That map, and many like it, use a Jurassic.u file, which has all the dinos in it. None of them really look like Godzilla.Vanlanthiriel wrote:I saw few dino models which would suit Godzilla, at least more than that stego above would.
